I just built one last night. Its not the brightest but it throws far still about 1100 lumen maybe a tad more. I like it id say it out throws the BLF D80

Yea its defiantly a pocket thrower I got to light up a reflector sign at 450 meters across water it kind of makes me feel disappointed in my L2 but I have another DD and another XPLHI on a copper board ready for the L2

Yeah, the C8 paired with XPL HI will not seem very bright, but the throw is amazing for the size. For comparison, my BLF D80 drawing 3.6A appears to be much brighter than the convoy drawing 5.3A.

Well you see that slightly dimmer light is actually a straight arc of electricity from driver to reflector it gives it a nice cool tint

XP-LHI V21A, MTN-17DDm, 20AWG wire, 22AWG spring bypass, LG HG2. I hope my DMM is correct, but I’ve seen some people report up to almost 6A direct driving the XP-L HI.

Hmmmm maybe I’ll use thicker wire cause I am using the stock wire that came with BLF DD same set up as you I have spring bypass 20 awg cable and running a HG2 I am getting 3 amps at tailcap.
But im sure my multimeter reads low because I only get 4.5 amps on my s70 and every one else is getting 5.5 maybe because im using stock leads on it.

I put an xp-l hi in my stock thorfire c8. The overall lumens stayed the same in my ceiling bounce test, but the lux on the hot spot almost doubled.

The hotspot is far brighter than my xintd c8 xp-g2, and close to blf d80

Yep, that (bolded) is probably the main issue. You might try another battery as well. Sadly, there are a lot of counterfeit HG2s out there, and they are often “mixed in” with cartons of genuine cells.

I’ve got 4 C8s with fet+1s and XP-L HI V2 1As and 1 C8 with a dedomed XP-G2 S4 2B and a fet+1 sitting at the house that I’m about to put up for sale after I take some pictures. All of the tail springs are bypassed directly to the switch. The throw with the XP-L HI in the C8 is better than that of the XP-L HI in an Eagle Eye X6. The throw of the dedomed XP-G2 is phenomenal.

I believe he does, but Rmm did not have luck with it, I tried it in a m2, with nichia 219c and I did not have luck either.

The XP-L dome is too big and you will dedome the emitter when pulling it off, and with the XP-L HI you have to sand down the top part to reduce the artifacts. The L2 spacer is the best for the C8, if you receive the good ones.

Just a little note on this one. I asked Simon to add the AR glass option to this C8. He has updated the listing on his site. If you’re going to order one of these you can upgrade to AR coated glass for $1. Personally I thought he should just raise the price by a dollar and go AR glass across the board but he doesn’t think it will be that popular. Opinions vary and it not my decision. To be fair I know some people don’t like AR coated glass for one reason or another but at least now the option is there when purchasing directly from Simon. Cheers.
