No the TN-42 has two reflectors a main one and a second small one around the de-domed led. Adding this second reflector evens the light out better and helps it project further. Heres some pictures to help explain.

1) the TN42 does not use a dedomed LED, it uses an XHP35 HI which has a flat layer of silicone instead of a domed layer of silicone.

2) the TN42 does not have anything around the LED except a circle of silicone which is used for centering.

3) what you are thinking about is this:

Some flashlights flatten the bottom of the reflector to use it sort of as a centering ring to save cost.
The reflective part at the bottom literally does NOTHING to the throw or beam of the flashlight, because the LED does not emit light at those angles.

If you look at the flashlight from the front, none of this area looks yellow because it is not reflecting any of the LED.
The only area that is yellow is the usable surface of the reflector which is a parabola.
Any part of the reflector which is not a parabola (such as the flattened part at the bottom) does not reflect any light from the LED into the beam.

4) there is no “two beams” of light from any flashlight.

If you are talking about this image posted a while ago, it only looks like “two beams” because that is what a hollow cylinder looks like when viewed from the side.
The walls of the cylinder have the most flux in them due to the emission pattern of an LED.
It is a cylinder of light, not two separate beams.
This is the case for ALL flashlights, but the larger the reflector is, the more visible it becomes.

I don’t like about the ramping feature, I prefer it to have the normal mode spacing and I could just tap on the switch and change among the 3 or 4 pre-set modes instead. That said I will probably just use this light on Turbo mode all the time lol.

Thanks for the great review video! Beer

The GT has Narsil, if you don’t like ramping you just use modes, and you can even choose hiw many andbifnit has memory if not Wink

BTW, I do not check other topics for people asking to be put on the list, only the GT thread, PMs get the same reply Wink

.
.
I working on a video outlining the full range of available functions in the UI today. I will propbly release it around the time lights start shipping Smile

Hi The Miller, thanks for the reply. If that’s the case then I would say this light is flawless!

Hi vestureofblood, I’m definitely looking forward to it, thanks for your contribution to the community!

I must seriously consider join the group buy. I love big flashlight.

You’ve left BLF for quite a while didn’t you? Silly Welcome back!

Thanks bibihang. I am glad to see you still active in this BLF community.
Ya, i got into another hobby that occupy most of my time.
Now I found that some of my batteries are not good anymore.
My D size NIMH Ternergy rusted and trustfire 26650 and A123 can’t hold juice, and most painful some glass lens of flashlights are not as clear as before.
So I have to go through some clearing work to throw away batteries and cleaning flashlights and buying batteries. I found that gearbest is like old time fasttech.
Glad that by luck i can join this groupbuy of great thrower developed by BLF members.

Yeah I’m still around, shocked to realize that I’ve actually been into this hobby for quite a number of years already (and spent A LOT), but I am not as active as before anymore due to my hectic work and also some changes in life priority.
Mind to share what’s your new hobby? LOL
I bought some batteries from Gearbest too but I seldom use my lights nowadays, but it’s true that Gearbest rocks nowadays by being able to ship batteries, and ship them fast!

That is one ridiculously impressive light. It makes me really wish I could think up a practical use for it that would justify the cost. Maybe if NASA loses one of their Mars exploration platforms I can help them search for it?

Yeah, I would LOVE to hold one in my hand, and play with it in the darkest place I can find… for about 15 minutes… then it would be useless to me. I can’t justify paying over $100 for that! But, I’m glad it was made and we get to see it in action. Big Smile

Thousands of BLF members probably went through this admittedly logical reasoning and held their horses. On a flashlight enthusiast forum.

Many of them spent hundreds on tacticool knives they will never need for more than a $11 Opinel would accomplish(almost guilty of that myself).

Even more spent thousands on firearm hobbyist stuff, even body armor, they’re never going to need outside of their backyard operator life because they’re obese with back problems and not going to be battlefield worthy should their wildest zombie apocalypse fears realize(definitely guilty on that one).

Too many spent or are going to spend all their disposable income on a nice car or truck. Probably not really that nice, but one that once was in a teenage fantasy.

Probably more than that have spent or will spend or have been enslaved for the rest of their lives for a nice house they never really liked and will lose by divorce theft. Be it $100k, $2M or whatever suits their location, local expenses and income level, many will have done just that. More will follow no matter how much the more experienced try to warn them.

Meanwhile, spending more than $100 on a legendary handheld gigathrower sounds like a lot. Hey, it must be stupid so let’s not do it. All of this on a flashlight enthusiast forum. Go figure.

Those active users of this forum who are also effectively involved in any kind of business IRL waste more of their time worth in money in a week just browsing the forum than the GT is worth. Why not just not read the BLF for a week and compensate afterwards by buying the GT? Wink

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but does anyone else think that VOB reminds of you of that character Livingston Dell from Ocean’s Eleven????

Hi vestureofblood !

Your Test/Preview is AMAZING and very detailed, thank you!. I was impacted indeed.

I followed the instructions and requested a GT in the corresponding thread.

- The Buy Group is still open, right?

- I should receive a PM in few days, right?

Thank you!

Hello everyone. 1st time in this forum. Lingering in CPF since 2008, where I first took notice of it. Sadly, the thread is closed.
I’m interested in acquiring this light. What’s the procedure and when would the light be ready for shipping?
Thanks in advance Smile

The more I learn about this light the more I want it. Still don’t know what I’d do with it. Luckily, I have binoculars.

Ya, Gearbest rocks. Let’s hope this light is the ultimate light we will buy.
Sorry I missed your post. Not really new hobby but old one, just putting more time and effort into old bodybuilding.

a few questions:

1. I’m on the list and made a down payment… will we get an email when the payment is due (and do we have an estimated date)…i dont want to miss it and also want to get the batteries before the light comes in.

2. Flat or button top and protected or unprotected batteries——— i’ve used both but what is everyone going with this time

This is not the correct thread to put your name down for the BLF GT.

You should do it here:

Congratulations vob !
Took me a while to find your node ( ? ).
Your video about the GT motivated me to order 3.
Your beamshot section in the video is by far the best I have ever seen.
The hotelpart at 1.18 mile distance proves that the GT can reach easy over 1 mile.
( Very professional the the google map with the distance scale, I would like to know how to get the scale on the map )
You should give lessons to all the other pretenders with their backyard beamshots,
anything over 1/2 mile shows no effect at all with all of them.
By now your video must have trebbled the orders for the GT.
Amazing ! Keep up the excellent work !
Regards ammofox

Most of us were ready to pass on this light till the vid blew us away. I’d bet close to 75% of total GT sales were a direct result of VOB taunted us with his awesome GT video. The preceding still cam beam shot photos, just didn’t give us the same perspective of how awesome and useful this light is at extreme ranges, as the vid showed us.

Thanks again VOB!

Thank you guys. I really appreciate you saying so. I’m really grateful to be able to contribute to a BLF project. This has been a big help to me as well. All of the support from fellow BLFers triggered a growth spurt on my Youtube Chanel as well. I’ve gained more subs since that video was uploaded than I gained in the whole year prior to that.

I ended up ordering two of them for myself, and may have to add to that as more and more ideas about what I can do with them keep poping up LOL!
