Review: Mr.Lite 1xAAA

Ok ! Some pictures to look at ...

Last picture shows Mr.Lite with ITP and Maratac ...

1st of all , the build quality is good for the price , it has O rings in the right places [ Lens + body join ] , and they look like they will do the job [ Im not going to dunk it ] . The threads are well done and smooth , something one would want in a twisty .

Did I mention its a twisty , and it has two levels , to start = Med - Lo - High - Strobe - Beacon [ very slow ]

Next level is very low - low - med - high - extra high - low SOS - High SOS - Beacon ...

Every time you turn the light off , it returns to the first level , Med - lo - Hi - Strobe - Beacon .. This might be annoying if you like the 2nd level more .

Lets check out the performance ..

Alkaline AAA
1st level
Med = 46Lumen / 0.62A current draw
Lo = 17Lumen / 0.34A current draw
Hi = 67Lumen / 1A current draw

2nd level
Very Lo = 10Lumen
Lo = 18Lumen
Med = 48Lumen
High = 69Lumen
Very High = 72Lumen

Lithium AA
1st Level
Med = 57Lumen / 0.6A
Lo = 19Lumen / 0.25A
Hi = 67Lumen / 0.86A

2nd level
Very Lo = 11Lumen
Lo = 19Lumen
Med = 47Lumen
High = 66Lumen
Very High = 72Lumen

Now these figures are approximates and may vary a little one way or the other . I simply could not measure current for the 2nd level as getting into it when measuring current proved , well I just couldn't do it , in fact its a little tricky getting to the 2nd level , as the instructions were in Chinese .

Now lets check out some beamshots , 1st Level , med - lo - high :

Medium

Low

High

Overall I would rate Mr.Lite as very usable , the level switching could be improved , and I really dont see why such a small light has strobe ?
I like the 2nd level more than the first , and it would have been nice if it held the chosen level . I sourced mine from here , from lightake.com and got it in about 1 week . If you like a lot of modes and want something trick , well , another light to look at buying .
I would love to see SOS - STROBE - BEACON modes removed from such a small light , and replaced with Moon mode [ 2-3Lumen ] Low [ 10 Lumen ] and Medium is fine , as is High at there current levels .
I dont know about running a 10440 in this light [ Mr.Lite ] , as the manufacturer seems to be adamant about not doing so , but I cant see reaching the claimed output with anything less than a 10440 .

Putting the 10440 aside for now , this is still a very nice light for the price that it is being sold for , and just perhaps , its trying to be to many things for to many people [ some thing for everyone ] when perhaps all that is needed is function , rather than razzmatazz .
My only two gripes are / Chinese instructions - and the 2nd level wont hold as it returns to the 1st level when its turned off .

I would love to see 4 Light Levels with no junk modes , if this were to happen , this light would be a must own !

No buyers remorse on this one , and I would rate my sample as good buying !

Thanks very much Matt for the detailed review! Sticky'd and Frontpage'd.

If Daniel or anybody from Mrlite is reading this, could you please offer a 1xAA version of this light in the same price category? Mrlite used to have some more affordable 1xAA lights, but they seem to be focused on the $50 price region now. It seems that if a 1xAAA light can be had for $15, a 1xAA would cost about the same.

Yeah, thanks for the nice review!

Can the light be disassembled? If yes, can you access the upper side of the driver pcb? Maybe take a photo of that? :)

And, I guess the reflector is aluminum?

The pill on mine is not at all keen to come out and I'm not keen to push it. It is certainly a tight fit in there. Mine has eaten its O ring but it works just fine without it. I don't seem to have a single ring that will actually fit and work in there just now. Time to join the DX O ring of the month club again....

I didnt post a picture as it looks to be a bear to get out [ pill ] ... Will take a picture some time today [ I hope ]

Thanks for your grate review , old4570 !

I have feedback the user's advice, and ask them cut down the price .

But don't know weather it will Work.

I will ask them again !

Hey Old, how are you estimating lumens?

Light box .... I have a light meter and I use it in a light box ... I did the math a long time ago , and I think Im real close , so its an approximation , but a close one ...

To change levels = in level 1 , go to low , then turn of for about 5 seconds , turn back on and you should be in Level 2 ...

Do you have any photos/description of your construction?

Thanks.

Hi Daniel,

where is that promising MrLite AA XP-G for ~ 20 $ you showed us in post number #183 , if it is available in 3 modes with no strobes this would sell like crazy.

Hi ,

I have contact the manufacturer, and they still didn't sent us the products , i will ask they again ,and keep the new one in stock .

and we also ask them cut dowm the price .

Will reply you as soon as possible !

Daniel

A light meter much like this one ....

The box itself is an old ATX computer power supply box ... I cut a slot in the bottom for the light meter to slide in yet block as much light as possible [ tight fit ]

The on the opposing side I cut a hole near the top [ its gotten larger over time ] to allow the flashlight to shine in ..

I angle it for minimum readings [ not max ] , as the minimum reading would be more accurate than a max reading ...

Then knowing the current [ driver efficiency ] LED , I work out the output of a light VIA math , not just one light , but several , and then come up with a formula that matches all the lights as close as possible .

Then to verify , all I need to do is use a light of known output and light reading , to check every now and again to make sure the light meter is working ok ...

Its the best I can do

+1 4 Modes , and no junk .... Id buy one ....

KC05 with 10440

Can anybody test it with a full charged (4,2v) 10440?

Thanks.

With 10440, this light is another history............ now it can worth!

fran82 sometimes your google translated postings are funny but hard to understand.

I think this is what he meant: "With a 10440, this light is a another story..... Now it's worth the money".

"History" and "story" are the same word in Spanish. And the English expression, "It's worth the trouble" or "It's worth it", is literally translated "It is worth the pain" in Spanish, so it's a bit of a problematic phrase to translate for a learner.

Which just goes to show that translation is rarely simple...

Thanks for the translation.

Hey, Matt or Don, can this light tailstand well? I am interested in the Mrlite TW-10, which is very similar to this design.
