I'd still like to see what others have purchased from China, especially from Chinese web stores, that they consider to be of high quality, and/or high value, or of high utility.
This is my EDC titanium keychain knife. It’s light, crafted with precision, sharp and satisfying to flip open. I applied a little low-strength purple threadlocker on the screws, and now they don’t come loose. I got mine from Amazon but it’s a little cheaper on AliExpress:
The Royal Thai Navy has bought one Chinese diesel-powered submarine (Yuan-class S26T model) at about US$434.1 million in a marvellous deal of buy two get one free. The first Chinese submarine will be delivered in 2023.
In the wake of the ongoing economic slowdown due to the pendemic, one big problem is the Royal Thai Navy cannot find money to buy the second one. Failing to buy the second one will lead to the loss of the free third submarine.
This is an interesting development with serious strategic regional implications, because officially Thailand has been a “non-NATO ally” of the USA. Too bad, the USA no longer produces cheap diesel submarines for export. And so far no one else can compete with China in selling cheap conventional diesel submarines.
What’s up with everyone buying submarines these days?
Are countries getting ready for a nuclear war? Surely people in high ranks are not that dumb to believe humanity can survive such an event?
For the Royal Thai Navy, buying the Chinese submarines is partly to keep up with neighbours (Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, Viet Nam, the Philippines, and Indonesia) who have submarines. In Southeast Asia, only Thailand, Laos (it is land-locked!), Brunei (too wealthy to bother), Cambodia (too poor ) and Timor-Leste (also very poor) don’t have any submarine.
Another irresistable incentive to buy from the Chinese is, apart from the gimmick of buy two get one free deal, is some undisclosed “sweetener” which usually comes with such a big ticket item.
There’s no mention of a lock and in the different photos I didn’t see any indication of a frame lock. Liner lock then? Or none, and just a slip joint? How’s the detent on it?
I paid about $21 for my mini D2 bladed knife with titanium frame/scales. It doesn’t flip open—there’s a slot to pull it open like a slip joint. But it does have a frame lock.
I’ve had mine for over a year now and it’s holding up extremely well. The edge retention is excellent, seems to be D2. Also, the scales are tough. I’ve had the knife in my pocket with metal objects and I barely notice any patina.
I read your post on the knife thread and I ordered the same mini D2 knife (just a slightly different handle). I liked it, but I wanted something smaller and would flip open.
It has a frame lock. The detent is strong enough that it’s never opened inadvertently in my pocket. Mine has held up very well over several months as well.
