Review: Sysmax i4 Intellicharge v2

I just recieved this charger this morning in the mail and have been charging batteries in it all day. The first set of batteries I tried was 3 trustfire protected 18650's. I extended the slider to fit them which was challenging to do because it was ungreased. The first time all three lights immediately lit up yellow. I checked the manual and this meant they were done charging. I took them out and checked them on my multimeter. One measured 3.79, the other 3.89, and the other 3.86. I knew that they were not actually done so I put them back in and after some fiddling it lit up with 1 solid 1 flashling which meant they were charging. It took about 3 hours until they were done.

The 18650 family. :)

The charging current for 18650's varied inbetween channels but the average was 4.13 volts except for one which was 3.89 volts.

For my duraloop aa's it charged them at 1.46 volts.

Proof that they're duraloops.

For the duraloops it cut off charging at 1.458 volts.(The tape is to hold the probes on)

Overall I'm satisfied with the charger however, I cannot say i recommend it until HKJ or old review it.

Edit: Unlike the v1 this charger can safely charge both nimh and lion chemistry at the same time. It charged the lions at 4.13 volts and the nimhs at 1.48 volts.

Edit: It stopped charging my 18650s at either 4.21 or 4.20 volts.

Edit: 18700'S should fit in this. I do not have any but I placed a 70 mm long piece of aluminum rod in it and it fit with about 2 mm to spare.

Aloha and welcome to BLF scaru!

Also, nice review and very good 1st post.

Good to have you here, scaru.

Yeah , id like to get the V2 ...

Its on the to get list ... Unfortunately I have blown my Easter money ...

Welcome to BLF, scaru.

Edit: 18700s should fit in this. I do not have any but I placed a 70 mm long piece of aluminum rod in it and it fit with about 2 mm to spare.

If anyone has any questions just ask and I will do my best to find out. :)

Y the V2 was modified to handle the longer 18650 cells ...

Q. Any id on the charger to show its V2 , rev2 , updated ?

Hi scaru, welcome to BLF and thank you for posting. This charger is on my shopping list too, can I ask how much and where from?

I purchased it from BugOutGearUSA for 32 dollars shipped with tracking. BugOutGearUSA's warehouse in in the US so it only took 5 days to get to me. I chose this retailer because of the fact that v1 had a number of problems and in the past they had offered everyone a refund and a free v2. http://bugoutgearusa.com/

Your TF3000s look as if they suffered a lot..^^

Do you have HiMax cells? I have to tape mine down into my charger or they'll pop out.. wonder if they'd fit this one.

The reason they look like that is that is tape because I had purchased them with a DRY and they covered the ends with tape so they wouldn't short circuit. I just couldn't manage to get all the tape off of the body. If they are 68.85 as I found online then yes they should fit considering my 70 mm long peice of aluminum rod fit in there.

Also for anyone wondering 26650s will fit in this charger. (Yes I know that that is a non-rechargeable c battery but they are the same size as I understand)

Unlike what had been planned to make the v1 work with in the US they did not just supply a 120vac to 12vdc wall wart but actually changed the internals to make it work on 120v in the US.

As far as I can tell the only difference is that the charging slots are longer. The BugOutGearUsa website says 2 cm but I think they meant 2mm. Also I seem to remember that the directions say v2 but don't quote me on that.

@scaru: Its not the length but the diameter. But I guess if 26650s fit, there shouldnt be a problem. Thanks. :)

Oh ok then yes they will definitively fit. If anyone is looking for a charger that will accept batteries that are not the standard size(HiMax, AW, Xtar 18700s etc.) then I would reccomend this, but of course I cannot say how closely it follows the cc/cv formula.

V1: Other package color (blue/yellow) and white/blue sticker on the charher.

V2: Yellow/black sticker on the charger and yellow/black package color.

Oh thanks.

Welcome to BLF, scaru. And thank you for posting this.

I always wonder what charger to get for 4 bay. I have one in order from DX that is acceptable if only they would deliver it already.

But if that falls through then I will remember this thread and this charger although I probably will look for a different vendor since I'm located in Europe.

BTW: Have fun here :-) That is what this is ultimately about.

Just ordered one from Hke: http://www.hkequipment.net/index.php?sp=&p=6&cat2=148&cat1=59&cat0=2&id=1114&cat1=59&cat0=2&new=&more=&s=dfd7c82e69fa99157948ca58a93c3d66&lang=en
Also bought the optional car charger adaptor for an extra $3 (ish).

Nice big pic!!Wink

BTW, for the sticky springs, somebody has suggested putting some oil on them. Well I did, and from that point on, the charger is buttery smooth. Also, I like the point that when it is finishes charging a sell, all 3 lights light up..
