C8 addicts thread

This C8.2 looks like affordable alternative to Nitecore TM03.

Hi, I have the following question: I have 2 convoy c8 clear new version with xpl-hi u63a, one mine and one that gives a friend, measure torch with luxometer at 6.5 meters with batteries panasonic ncr-b 3400 mah and stock produces 60000cd, Is a reasonable value? Next, the mine was modified with BLF controller A6, by pass cables springs 22 awg and with battery sanyo ga, produces 81000 cd, is also a reasonable value? Last modified my friend’s flashlight, stacking 4 amc 7135 in source controller of 8 amc, produces in the tail 4.15 amps (logical) and 76500 cd, what is the limitation the type of led? Or flashlight being rendered low? Sorry for the long, greetings !!

You may be able to increase the lux by fine-tuning the reflector position. If I recall correctly, the reflector on that one should be slightly lower than it normally is, to put the LED slightly higher.

You could also increase lux by using a de-domed XP-G2 instead of XP-L HI. I hear this can increase lux to 140k cd if done well.

It may also help to increase the pressure holding the MCPCB to the pill, for better thermal transfer.

However, 60k to 80k cd isn’t bad for XP-L HI.

Hello, ToyKeeper, thanks for your prompt reply, being you the creator of this firmware, what I wanted to know is if the values for this configuration were correct, for your answer I think if, for now I will keep this mod, at least in the Flashlight of my friend, yesterday I came from INTL a new xpg2 based on 20 mm ……… maybe mine ……. greetings !!!

I don’t really do much lux optimization though. You could get better answers from someone else.

It sounds like you did a fine mod. :+1:

From what you’ve said I think your biggest performance hit is the emitter. Specifically the U-binned XPL-HI U-binned emitters. The tint is nice but you can increase the power running through them all day long and see little gain. I had an L2 with the same emitter. With a similar upgrade as you’ve described, speaking just from an output factor I didn’t see more than 1100 lumens even at around 5.5A if I remember correctly.

The eye-opener was a simple emitter swap to a higher binned emmiter. With no other change we gained 400 or so lumens…

Hi, J-Dub74, thanks for your appreciation, both you and ToyKeeper, are referent, I feel calm with the mod then, it is true what it says regarding the led, in DD with blf a6 pushes the tail by over 5 amps, And the gain is not so significant, by the way the dye is very nice, greetings and thanks for commenting.

Hi everyone!
Does anyone have “hack” method to chance 19mm driver hole to normal 17mm driver hole? I found one host and it is just great otherwise than that 19mm driver hole. Same kind of head like Convoy C8 “integrated”. And it is also with retaining ring holding driver in place. I have keep pushing manufacturer to chance that driver hole size but no luck with that yet. Maybe all C8 lovers should ask them to chance their C8 to 17mm driver so maybe they would do something about it? It surely looks very much the same with Convoy C8 and that C8S version with U-shaped tailcap really is great looking C8 for my eyes anyway  I’m really not into XHP-50/ 35 but XP-High Intensity and driver in 17mm size is much easier to find.

Alot of people want to move to 20mm drivers to be able to use more advanced boost drivers.
But a thin metal ring could probably work as an adapter.

Can you tell me wich kind of combination people do build with 20mm driver? Thanks in advance

XHP50.2 and H1-A boost driver

Sugest you read the post above, they mostly talk about this setup.

Might be able to use a 20 to 17mm adapter slightly shaved down

Speed4goal, thanks! I did allready ordered those from kaidomain and now you confirmed that they might work

Edit: also ordered XHP50.2 and HI-A anyway so can’t go wrong

What is so great about this driver? I see that you can use a single cell and run a 6v led but the output doesn’t seem like it would be all that great…only 3a?

With resistor mods you can push it up to 3.5A+, up to about 24W output. Sure, it isn’t the brightest thing around, but it’s fully regulated, no PWM, good mode spacing, and can maintain that level of brightness through the entire cell discharge.

Really the appeal to me though is just running 6V emitters in places that were impossible before, or using series triples, and having full PWM free regulation.

If throw is what you want a DD XP-L HI is the way to go, but I actually prefer the XHP50.2 beam for general use, and 2000+ lumens is plenty.

Its the single cell and 6v that i like.
I dont have any 18350 and dont realy like the 700-800mah size (until i get my aspire)

Not everything needs to be driven at the absolut max.
I use it in a S2 and EE X7.
The output is decent and it dosnt get superhot, the x7 takes a long time to heat up.

I’m kind of a max output person so I’d have to go with a fet and 2 18350s…since I wouldn’t carry it around for work or anything like that. I don’t really care for XP-L HI much, I’d rather have a dedomed XM-L2 or a dedomed XP-G2. I wonder why there are no 6v boost drivers that’ll let you push about 7-10 amps through them?

I believe size is the one issue , they will be huge and secondly they will require crazy current from the batteries …

3A to a XHP50.2 does around 2500lm.
The driver has no step down.
You get a usable hot spot, not something tiny, needle sized like from a xp-g2.
You get decent amount of throw.
And you only has to use one 18650.
