Have the X40, K50, and TN31(made by Supbeam) and all have problems taking long cells with the Chinese protection circuit, the K50 to the point it won’t operate properly. I would buy batteries with the Seiko protection circuit, Keeppower, Xtar, or Mountain Electronics. Sure there are others.

Quirky, my K50 from the GB works on protected Panasonic 3400s from BG or FT (cant remember which now but definitely one of them). They say nothing of where the IC is made but I would assume China, as they were fairly cheap at the time (maybe 4 or 5 months ago). 2 for under $20 or something like that. Those same cells are a tight fit in a TK61 too.

IIRC, OL mentioned in one of his K50 threads that without protection circuits he would not trust the batteries to stay seated (paraphrasing). Yeah, he fitted unprotected cells and shows a pic with a substantial amount of uncompressed spring, he makes note of the loose fit. All my cheaper protected Panasonic 3100, 3400, and Samsung 2800 from BG and WB have trouble fitting in the lights above, have to really force the last one’s in. Keeppower Panasonic 3400, 3100 and Xtar Sanyo 2800 fit fine.

when I buy Chinese goods most companies ship with the value marked @half what I,be paid.of course I,m always chuffed that I get my product faster without customs hold ups. Can anyone comment on their past experience with supbeam .
Not asking you to suggest anything naughty flashpilot,just wanted some feedback about previous experience with their shipping practices.I guess this is common practice by companies to gain favour with customers.

The thumbnail says that to deliver 5000 lumens you are going to need about 50 watts or about 8.3 watts per cell. That is going to be about 2.4 amps or so. That is well within the capability of the standard cells like ncr18650A. The PF and BD cells have capability that isn’t needed in this application, and from my experience with the X40, I am not sure protected BD cells will fit. They go into the carrier of the X40, but the carrier doesn’t fit back in the flashlight due to overhang from the protected BD cells. It also raises the same potential issue for protected NCR18650B. I ended up using protected NCR18560A’s in my X40.

The high current capability might buy you a few more lumens for a while, but the lower capacity of IMR/INR cells means significantly shorter run time as well.

Bad Math! 50 divided by three 18650 batteries is 16.6 watts/cell which at 3.7V nominal is about 4.5 amps per battery. Well within the capability of GOOD 18650 batteries but moving into the relatively heavy drain area for standard high capacity batteries optimized for maximum capacity rather than high current delivery. Of course most people will not be using maximum most of the time so average drain will be lower but I was figuring worst case.

The math is correct. The X60 uses SIX 18650 cells NOT Three.

The X60M has the new MTG2 Led. The X60M and the X60 cost the same except the the X60 comes with batteries. So which is the better light?

They are completely different lights. The Supbeam batteries are not very good. Which light is better, depends entirely on what you're looking for. The X60M will be brighter, with a more neutral tint, and three LEDs. The X60 will also be quite bright, but not as bright, with more throw, and a much cooler tint.

The X60M is almost twice the price of the X60 good buy.
