Hello my friends!
Thorfire sent me a sample of the:
ThorFire VG10 Tactical Flashlight
it is the upgraded version with a Cree XM-L2 LED, has 4 Modes (0.5 - 847Lumen) and comes with a 18650 Battery and USB Charger.
i save my place for pictures an thoughts - you can find the tech data on thorfires amazon page
i received a cardboard box last friday
opened it…
and found a lot of stuff…
the flashlight, a USB-charger, a lanyard, and a small bag (beside the user manual and a warranty card)
the small bag with the spare parts included:
a O-Ring, a spare lens, a tail switch and a rubber boot
the included charger fits for 18650 and 16340 cells
rated 1000mA
the micro USB-port
the cell is a “eachine BRC 18650 2200 mAh”
i tested it in my BT-C3100 and got 2324 as result… nice!
not so nice is the fact that the cell shuts off at 2,9Amps
let´s have a closer look at the light:
pfysi.jpg!
there are 2 holes at the tailcap for using a lanyard
and a wobbly (stainless?) steel ring
the head is HOT!
smooth SS bezel and smooth reflector
you can hardly see the (non-coated) glass between the bezel and the redish O-ring
there is the Cree XM-L2
the reflector sit very deep on a thin centering ring…
it can tailstand!
lets open it!
no square cut threads - but lubed
threads are anodized, only the last bit makes contact to the tailcap (lockout)
i removed the (did i say it wobbles?) ring and the clip
the clip left scratches ( i only removed the clip, never rotated or mounted twice)
inside the tailcap
a quite long spring - unprotected pulls did work as did my veery long Panasonic
disassembeld
mind the correct order!
as you can see the “batterytube” screws wide over the head
i removed the reflector
the LED on a aluminium star with the plastic centering ring
the driver has some stars and a long spring also
the brass ring which holds the driver in place and makes contact to the battery tube needed a bit raw force (me using pliers) and chemistry (coolant spary) to jump out
enough thermal paste under the star…
dimples in the head
on both sides….
the driver without the coil
all together - ahem apart
unfortunataly my beamshots went south - a home cinema canvas is not good for that…
but i have some numbers:
Amps on tailcap
table(table#posts).
|using the eachine cell: | 2,47 | 0,97 | 0,07 | 0,001 |
|using a Samsung IMR 25R: | 2,97 | 1,07 | 0,07 | 0,001 |
Lumens out of my BudgetLightBox: (NCR 25R)
table(table#posts).
| thorfire VG10 | 900 | 398 | 35 | 0 |
| SD10 BLF NW | 880 | 380 | 111 | 0 |
| conyoi S2+ red, 8x7135, NW | 620 | 270 | 32 | - |
conclusion:
good:
- a nice light!
- well built, and you get a lot for the price (which is 29,99 atm at banggood…)
- it has a good beamprofile (i will take photos as soon as i reassemble it - IF i am sucessful)
bad:
- the switch at the tailcap is very hard to press! my “normal sized” hands it felt uncomortable operating it with one hand
- the UI : if OFF you tap to cycle High/Mid/Low/Moon and when you get to the needed level you fully press/klick the switch to change the level you have to switch it OFF and tap again (fortunately it has mode memory)
- the cell can only deliver 2,9 Amps and switches off then
i did not test the charger (i do not believe cheapos)
maybe i open it up sometimes and check the chip which dioes the magic…
