GearBest New Giveaway for he headlamp topics ( winners picked)

If your giving away headlamps how about giving me my warboy that never showed up?

1. What’s the best headlamp in the market you know and want to recommend it to others , and why do you think it’s best and recommendable

Nitecore HC90 for outside work around the camp, hunting, fishing as it has a great balance of colors, modes, and batty life. I also really like that it he main beam is infinitely adjustable

Fenix HL 50 for around the house. Very light with the CR123A and great mode spacing for just about any household task that requires two hands and supplmentry light.

2. what’s the improvement do you think the headlamp ( which you mention in question 1) still needs

None. They are perfectly suits to their respective tasks.

3. what’s your suggesting special functions for headlamps

I will echo Sirius9s' comment. Hands free mode mode changes where you could just quickly shake your head up or down to go up or down one step in brightness. Left to right to change modes. It wouldn't be a budget light but done properly it would be awesome.

4. any other thing you want to propose

None

Thanks for running another giveaway.

  1. What’s the best headlamp in the market you know and want to recommend it to others , and why do you think it’s best and recommendable
    > Haven’t found one yet. Tried Skilhunt H02 recently, seem like a decent model with good lumens, modes, and build quality.
  2. what’s the improvement do you think the headlamp ( which you mention in question 1) still needs
    > Weight. 18650 can be front heavy for prolong use.
  3. what’s your suggesting special functions for headlamps
    > Must have red LEDs, temperature control and super long runtime.
  4. any other thing you want to propose
    > Make it compact and IPX-8 if possible.

1. What’s the best headlamp in the market you know and want to recommend it to others , and why do you think it’s best and recommendable

I think this has to be a ZebraLight, even though its headlamps are not budget products. As a fan of high CRI, I like the ZebraLight H600Fd Mk. III.

2. what’s the improvement do you think the headlamp ( which you mention in question 1) still needs

CRI should be in the 90s. The upcoming handheld ZebraLight SC600Fd Mk. III Plus promises this.

3. what’s your suggesting special functions for headlamps

In general, I think headlamps should be designed for medium and short distances.

4. any other thing you want to propose

Blinking modes are a low priority for headlamps.

Thanks for the giveaway, GearBest.

This thread deserves to be trashed because GearWORST its that bad.

If you are one of the fortunate ones to have had no problems with this company, good for you.

If they fail to ship items or leave items out of shipments as they have done repeatedly to me, be prepared to deal with a long list of ridiculous requests that ignore the content of your correspondence.

GearWORST is rated ! AVOID ! by this forum for good reason.

1. What’s the best headlamp in the market you know and want to recommend it to others , and why do you think it’s best and recommendable

Fenix HL23 because it uses single AA battery and good runtime

2. what’s the improvement do you think the headlamp ( which you mention in question 1) still needs

I wish it has red LED as well

3. what’s your suggesting special functions for headlamps

motion sensor for easy access to modes

4. any other thing you want to propose

headlamp size shall be as small as possible

1. Nitecore Hc30. It is the best headlight I own, it is very small, it comes with a pocket clip and double funtions as a flashlight.
2.I think the user interface is a little awkward/complicated. It goes straight to moonlight, and has the option to go straight to turbo. I think it should be able to go straight to a medium mode.
3. I think it doesn’t need strobe, so the shortcut to strobe should be a shortcut to medium.
4.I like how the Warboy works with small periodic dimming to keep the light from getting too hot and having a longer battery life. I would recommend a magnet on the tailcap to increase its usability.

1. Fenix HL23 because it uses single AA battery and good runtime

2. I wish it has red LED as well

3. motion sensor for easy access to modes

4. headlamp size shall be as small as possible

Zebralight AA since it can use batteries commonly available worldwide and has decent brightness and modes

2. What’s the improvement do you think the headlamp ( which you mention in question 1) still needs
Warmer tints

3. What’s your suggesting special functions for headlamps
built in charger

4. Any other thing you want to propose
none

1) Yinding. I don’t own one yet. I am going by the many positive comments on mtbr.com. It is used by cyclists, particularly mountain bikers, both as a handlebar light and a helmet lamp.

It has a neutral white tint, which is very important to distinguish natural features in the landscape. My guess is that speleologists would also like neutral white. There does not seem to be enough neutral tint lights offered.

And it, along with Nitefighter/Revtronics BT40s (this I own), is recognized for quality construction in a budget bicycle light.

2a) It would be vastly improved if the base was designed for Gopro mounts since Gopro adapters for both handlebars and helmets are widely available.

2b) Another improvement would be if this Gopro adaptable base also incorporated a heat sink. The light can get quite hot.

3) Special function: a wired remote control would be great. Instead of reaching for the light unit itself, you would reach for the remote that you would fix in a more convenient spot, such as on the side of a helmet.

4) As an accessory, a 2x18650 battery pack, or just the case, could be offered; the weight of a 4x18650 would be hard on the neck. The battery pack, or case, would fit into a head strap system or come with universal mounting for vented helmets.

1. What’s the best headlamp in the market you know and want to recommend it to others , and why do you think it’s best and recommendable

Haven’t found one yet. I tear them apart to modify them to where they’re useful

2. what’s the improvement do you think the headlamp ( which you mention in question 1) still needs

Amber and red emitters, XP-E2 or PC Rebel, with a moonlight white as the THIRD not FIRST choice, and mode memory, and no blinkies

3. what’s your suggesting special functions for headlamps

Good at night without destroying the night vision adaptation of anyone around.
You won’t appreciate this in China or anywhere else unless you can see the Milky Way clearly visible in the night sky.
Go on, go outside after sunset and look up. Can you see the Milky Way tonight where you are?
It should look something like this:

That’s a good measure of how much light pollution at night your location experiences.
If you can’t see the Milky Way, you’ll build a headlamp that’s far too bright to use outdoors in a dark sky location.

4. any other thing you want to propose

1) I only have one headlamp ( Xtar H3 Warboy ) And it has been fantastic ( ? Recommendable ) I have had no issues with it … ( So reliability / and POWER )
2) If only it would ramp up and down from say 5% to 100% rather than having set modes
3) No special functions , except possibly thermal ( over heating ) protection
4) Flashy modes should be hidden in all flashlights , and possibly more lights that ramp ( infinitely adjustable rather than modes ) Or ! modes that can be set my the user …… ( Light level )

1. What’s the best headlamp in the market you know and want to recommend it to others , and why do you think it’s best and recommendable

Skilhunt H15. It is briliant because:

  • It can run on simple AA cell. There are very few reasonable headlamps that runs on single AA.
  • Bright enough for a most types of work. In theory they could squeeze a little more from AA cell, but that would hurt the runtime. Current balance is sweet spot for me.
  • Very nice tint - NW.
  • Floody beam pattern also is good for most purposes. For throw I’d rather use regular flashlight.
  • Small and light - due to AA usage. Also very solid build.
  • Well spaced modes with no blinky modes! Lowest mode (3 lumen) is perfect for me - with this floody beam.
  • Simple UI. Except one downside (mentioned below).
  • Has a useful magnet.
  • Good quality for good price. Also useful as an EDC light.
  • As a bonus it can run on 14500 to give even more output, but it’s not that important for me.

2. what’s the improvement do you think the headlamp ( which you mention in question 1) still needs

  • Headband is somehow too “heavy” for that light, it’s more suitable for 18650 headlamps. I’d remove center strap. Also if possible to make it more portable. In other words - add to the package SKILHUNT HB1 headband instead.
  • Remove flashing beacon. I don’t find real purpose for it and it somehow complicates turning off.
  • Improve standby drain - it’s pretty high on AA! Nowdays it should be uA.

3. what’s your suggesting special functions for headlamps

Headlamps are typical workhorses. From my perspective “special” functions are not really needed. Only “special” thing I find usable is a magnet in a tailcap.
Actually I’d rather remove “special” functions from UI as it just complicates the usage.
Red light that sometimes is present in the headlamps - also useless for me, I’d rather use moon mode for that. BUT on the other hand - having simple UV led could be interesting…

4. any other thing you want to propose

Almost all I wrote above. In general headlamp should be solid and light - that’s my preference.

Thanks GearBest, for yet another GiveAWay.

1. What’s the best headlamp in the market you know and want to recommend it to others , and why do you think it’s best and recommendable
XTAR H3 Warboy, very bringht and not very expensive. You can leave on max, and when the temperature gets too high it will dim a bit until it gets cool enough to ramp up again.

2. what’s the improvement do you think the headlamp ( which you mention in question 1) still needs
It’s basically a thrower. When crawling in tight spaces I could use some kind of diffuser that also acts as a protection against damaging the light.

3. what’s your suggesting special functions for headlamps
I have tried it, so I know it’s ramping down. But I like all my lights to have some form of low voltage protection (LVP) with an explicit warning.

4. any other thing you want to propose
Make the straps a bit sturdier. And please: no camo.
