The making of the BLF UC4 charger: the start of a new venture, INTEREST LIST, UPDATE 7 (Well, ramping stopped :/ )

For example, iPhone 4S smartphones feature a 3.5", 3:2 960 × 640 pixel touchscreen. The 5/5c/5s did with a 4", ≈16:9 1136 × 640 one. That stuff is super-cheap to manufacture nowadays. Since the cost may have to do with the perceived value by customers, better use some sober graphics. Albeit, in any case, the device isn't going to be powered by powerful CPUs, just a competent microcontroller. Thus, either much lower resolutions are due (¼ or so), or a more powerful microcontroller/CPU, or both. Just sayin'…

My Eizfan Lux S4 lcd touch-sreen display has this screen, I wonder how much will it add to this project’s cost:

A color touch screen is a great idea, let’s try to see if we can get it!

Shitcoins.

Rough guessing that screen looks like 384 × 256 pixels or thereabouts.

The screen is cheap, pretty sure. Other than this, you paid for a charger at the price of exclusiveness nicotine vice, imho.

Maybe a tad hulky display for this project.

Is NiMh termination selectable? -dv/dt, 0dv/dt, voltage termination + topoff charge or no topoff? Trickle selectable current or no trickle charge?

I’m interested.

Im interested!

please add me to the list. thank you

Please add me to the list.

It’s looking great :+1:

Please add me to the list too. This looks awesome. Thanks!

Sounds interesting.
Put me on the list.

looks like they've decided for the touchscreen UI, me likey!!

Please add me to the list

Please add me to the interest list.

Interested, hoping it fits my budget.

People are posting pics of the UT4, which as I understand is what this charger will be based on. So what does UC4 stand for?

To be able to select trickle charge for NiMh cells would be good. Especially if you are using eneloop cells most of the time.
And something about the standart charge current vor NiMh cells. i thing 700 or 1000mA is way to much.If i am not wrong the recomendation for NiMh cells is
capacity /4. So for a 2000mAh cell 500mA charge current. Ad for a 800maH AAA cell 200mA charge cuurent.
If i chage NiMh cells faster they will get hot. I can be totally wrong but in my poinion a 500mA standart charge current vor NiMh will work well for most AA cells.
At 700 or 1000mA standart i would have to lower the charge current for almost every NiMh cell i own not only the AAA size.

The charger will not be based on the UT4.

The protected 21700s make it impossible to use the IT4 as a base.

So… is there still time and opportunity to reconsider usage of touch screen (like the one on smartphone)? Is the final design already set?

Final design has not been set at all.

Everybody, it’s only been 2 weeks. You can’t expect a brand new charger to be made that quickly.

BLF projects tend to take a long time. While this one won’t take as long as flashlights projects, things still can be slow, especially with communication.
