The good ones I was getting from KD got deleted when they went to the new site. I have some of the other two versions they have on order I will update when they come in.
I would also say the CNQG one, it looks built for smaller emitters. These may also take in just the dome of an XML emitter and give better focus. Mine is on the way. I shall try as soon as it arives.
I also use KD's XP-E / XP-G OP reflectors. They focus well for XP-E and XP-G but too narrow for others. I drilled one for XM-L use and it gave a nice and better focused beam than some other XR-E type reflectors.
I actually just got them last week, I haven't had a chance to use one yet. They are identical to the ones I was getting from KDs old site. Not much to report both part number deliver he exact some part ones a couple cents more. It's a standard P-60 pill, a 16mm emitter board fits on the front and a standard 17mm driver fits on the back. The reflector is decent quality as are the threads and the holes are big enough for standard sized wire. A great price for a great product if you can stand the wait.
I prefer the first one for XPGs, but the second one has a slightly larger hole for the emitter. I have a Nitchia 219 coming later this week and I can report back which one fits better and has a better beam.
What was the verdict on the two KD XPG reflectors? I've been wanting to make some Nichia 219 dropins of my own and would appreciate knowing your thoughts on which reflector worked better.
You have 2 good options with the Nichias the KD ones or the CNQ ones.
I use the KD ones to center the emitter and then test with both the KD and CNQ ones to see which ones give a better beam. Most of the time the CNQ ones give a better beam.
Nailbender also uses these KD ones on his Nichias but the CNQ ones definitely give a better beam.
I haven’t found an smooth (SMO) reflector that gives an acceptable beam with the Nichias.
I use these hard plastic isolation discs for XPGs and Nichias because they have a small XPG sized hole. I stick them to the reflector not the pill since they are a slippery material they help get the reflector tight without moving the emitter around.
A better beam is a very subjective thing all I can say is buy one of each and see which one you like better. The KD one makes centering any XPG on a P-60 so much easier it’s good to have one around even if you only use it for that.
