$1000 of reflectors

This is the reflector for my WIP project which has been in the design stages for over a year.
I finally have almost all of the parts, and this is the most expensive and important piece.

These are PA17.02 electroformed reflectors from Phoenix Electroforms, 11” diameter.
I will post the build log when I start machining and assembling everything  for now just a teaser.

I’d be afraid to have those exposed to the air like that. you must live in a really clean home!! :+1:

 Yeah.
They had dust on them when they arrived, I carefully cleaned them with a microfiber cloth and put them in a clean drawer.
They are aluminum coated, so it’s not as delicate or reactive to oxygen as silver.
Can’t wait to start building!

Wowsa. 11’’ is one huge reflector. I’d be scared of getting a greasy finger print on them. Looking forward to what your imagination and creativity brings to the table. :open_mouth:

Yeah it’s huge, but that’s what will hopefully get some insane lux numbers
No fingerprints on it yet!
Thanks

Looks like we’re going to have a LED upside down in this one. I like it already.

Why so small? :stuck_out_tongue:

Yup

Next size up would be 25” which doesn’t fit in my backpack, and would no longer classify as portable :stuck_out_tongue:
Also that would cost like $5000, maybe for a future project.

It sounds like you sir…need a bigger backpack.

Did they have the tooling ready or is this custom all the way?
Why a hole in the middle?

Looking forward to see the results too.

EDIT:
Ahh…I see…you found a stock product.

They had the tooling but had to manufacture them for me since they had none in stock, so that took a few weeks.

The hole is part of the way it is made, they don’t have the option of no hole, for something like that a custom mandrel would need to be made and that would cost like $10k.

I bought a reflector from Phoenix for an HID a long time ago. Amazing quality.

Looking forward to your result. I’m sure it will impress.

She’s a beaut, Clark!

Anxious to see what you come up with

Wow :open_mouth: looking forward to this

This reflectors is not deep. They will focus only small part of light from led. Or will you use some more completed system?no just one reflector.

And if you do get ’prints on it, you can still use it for some amazing stir-fry…

I guess he’ll use an auxiliary reflector. A Wavien collar.

Hmm now I understand what the rep from Phoenix Electroform was talking about, creating a mounting feature……

Yeah, it’s half the price of an Optiforms reflector!
Just tested the focusing and it is very good. Not perfect, but still way better than the bathroom magnification mirrors I’ve tested previously.

Thanks guys

The LED faces into the reflector, not away from it.
It’s called “recoil” configuration.
About 95% of the light will be collected, compared to the 50-60% of a typical forward-facing reflector.

Lol the most parabolic stirfry you’ve ever seen!

Yeah adding a mounting feature was not really expensive, they were great to work with.
A lot better than trying to add one on yourself, because they can properly center it and use the special red heat glue stuff.
