Hi!
today i opened a Pack out of a medical device…
inside 6 pcs Sanyo cells - each 17mm diameter and 49mm long
nice find: a 70°C thermistor is soldered in series with the pack
(datasheet says it is made for 2,6A @ 120V AC LINK )
the batteries where heavily glued - so i stripped them (since the big diameter shrink foil for 18650s should work)
they are still in the charger - i update some data tomorrow…
Questions:
does anyone have experiences with such cells?
what whould you do with them?
what is that thing for?
saw that often in battery packs - looks like there is something inbetween the square pads…

The A sized cell is a bigger brother of the AA cell. I’ve never seen one personally, but I haven’t seen any uses for them either.
Let us know how much charge they hold!

There are also 4/3 A cells which have the size of 18650s
I have this cell:
But the capacity is not like described and what you would exspect from if you extrapolate from a eneloop.
I hope your Sanyo cells are better.

Has anyone seen those in slow-self-discharge (Eneloop-like) form?

the item welded to the cells is a polyfuse.
between it and the thermal switch its a well protected pack.

i charged / discharged / charged with 700 mA
got 1950 to 2070 mAh
( which seems to be correct, since the device showed that the pack has less than 2100 mAh and has to be replaced )

Seems like a very accurate medical device. Can you provide a little more details about it and how it notified you of the battery capacity?

thats a infusion pump.
when i do preventive maintainance i look into the service menu where that value is to read.
(i have to write that down next time to compare)
-> i throwed away near to 100 of that pack the last months…
yesterday i was a bit curious and opened one
if i find a good use for that size i will keep some of the better ones.

That’s really cool, thanks for sharing.
The capacities of the old cells aren’t that great though, since an Eneloop would have a higher capacity, lower internal resistance, lower self discharge, etc.
