18650 batteries question!!

hi guys ,

i have some panasonic NCR18650 2900MAH protected and some ncr18650 unprotected . the protected i use them into my niteye-30 and the unprotected into the skyray king…

in the and of this year or with in Jan of 2013 i will received my Elektrolumens st90 and i don’t know what batteries to buy for this light…

as i read is a direct drive flashlight so if you add good batteries is going to more bright and better ran-times and im wondering if i buy again the PANASONIC NCR18650A 2900 protected are going to be good or is better for ncr3100A or you recommend NCR18650B 3400

hopping your expedience will help my confusion!!

Thanks andreas

The NCR18650B will give the longest runtime.

i was thinking to buy again the 2900 because im happy with them and they have a very good price … but i will consider the run times of 3400 most probably will be 3400 my next order!

thanks!!

2 pairs of 3400 protected on the way!!!

Where did you buy them? I’m looking for a good source of Panasonic NCR18650B cells. Any brand, protected or not, want to see the options and shops that sell them.

NCR18650A would be fine too, that’s the older 3100mAh version.

i order them from http://www.fasttech.com/ i dont know if are good or not from this shop… most of the times i order from http://www.hkequipment.net . this time i order only because of the big price difference!!! hopping to get originals!! i never had an expirience from fassttech …

any of you guys???

Fasttech is good so far, no fakes from them heard yet. Good chance you’ll get the right ones.

Just FYI, Panasonic 4000mAh is due out in around 5 months, I believe.

4000??? that’s going to be great!!! and most probably hi-current too!!!

Any chance they will make a 26650?
Lets say 7-8000mAh?
Come on, come on, give that big bastard a little boost, they seem so underdeveloped compared to the smaller 18650 in terms of energy density, size vs capacity.

It's because 18650s are so much more popular, that is where the money is. Think about it, how many laptops are there?

We are far away from that. 2000mAh high current cells are coming slowly, maybe we'll see the successor of the NCR18650B with 4000mAh by mid-end 2013.

And there are 26650s from Panasonic. High current with about 3000mAh IIRC..

I'll bet you guys they will be called NCR18650C. :P

I dont think so.. there will be a 3600mAh cell first, maybe named -C, so the 4000mAh will have -D or maybe -F (-E already exists) or something else. :P

Not nearly as many as there used to be… and most of the new ones are using pouch cells.

Nah Panasonic already announced 4k as next step. It should get C codename unless they decide to change the whole code.

This 4k ones will use slightly different chemistry with higher voltage. So all your fancy i4s are going obsolete…

I got my info from the Panasonic roadmap 2012, including some unreleased cells, might be outdated ofc.

Where did you get your info? From what I have read, Sanyo cells will be 4.35V but Panasonic will stay at 4.2V.

Read the plan during Panasonic release of 3400mAh this year. I didn’t keep the link(s). But it definitely mentioned mid 2013 for the 4k release and that it will use silicon electrode instead of carbon.

There has been discussion whether the change will actually increase the voltage, but if the voltage really do remain 4.2V I think that’s good news.

most of the chargers into the market they charging batteries up to 4.2 volts … i don’t believe are going to introduce batteries with 4.5v or similar…

imagine that the Sanyo 4.35v is a bit impossible with most of the charger to fully charged them !!

Sanyo, Samsung and LG already have released 4.35V cells. Battery packs just require some little changes in the electronics..

what chargers can charge those 4.35v batteries??
