18650 Battery replacement for power tools

Hi,
I was looking for a recommendation on cells for power tools. I dont know, how many Amps the current cells are capable of, though. Has anyone here replaced power tool batteries and can recommend a cell?

Have you opened the battery ? Usually you’ll be able to check which are the original cells and their CDR to choose something equivalent. Or if you didn’t you might find a teardown on the Web of your battery, which model is it ?

Lithium replacement, or conversion from NiXX > lithium?
Have you gotten inside of a pack? Some may be easy (screws), some may be glued together and a mess.

I’ve done conversions, but not replacement of same. You DO want high output cells, not necessarily max capacity.

Youtube is a good place to find info about that.

I opened the pack, which was quite easy. The problem is, there are no markings on the cells.

You might try peeling off the shrink. Might be something printed on the cell can.
But, it really doesn’t matter if you are replacing the pack. Anything with > 15A or better output should work. There’s fair number of options. Not sure where you would buy from Germany.

You can do some excellent research here: List of tested batteries

Ideally, just go with the lowest resistance cell possible.

I’d go with something like the Molicel P26A as a high cycle high power replacement, or the P28A if you want more capacity.

It would help if you gave more info:

What power tool? Make? Year? Pictures?

What are the replacement options? At what price?

Do you use this professionally? On occasion?

What are your abilities? Can you spot weld nickel strips? What would your alternative series/parallel connect be?

Does this have a more recent BMS? or is the older less discriminate?

What is the design Capacity Discharge Rate (CDR)? Going for something higher may fry the electronics.

Like, it’s a rabbit hole of sorts.
