Thanks for that info led4power, I did not know that. The graph is very convincing, and overdriving 5mm leds makes it much worse. Not that lifetime matters greatly for what we hobbyists do here, my Nitecore Tube is used for 3 seconds once a day to look into the letterbox, but if we do serious builds for Nasa it does matter a lot.
I donât have data for this particular LEDs, but a very old âfade testâ data from CPF do suggest that a really well-made 5mm LEDs (radioshackâs) might happily last 50k hrs at 30ma.
For Nichia-tier LEDs, they would last ~5000 hrs at 30 ma (at L70 a.k.a. leds considered âfailedâ when the brightness drops below 70%)
The thread also mentioned that, LED lifespan increases 4x for every halved currents.
For these LEDs though (which is now known to be more efficient than Yujiâs and probably many standard 5mm LEDs), my educated guess would be at least ~4000 hrs at 30ma/ ~1000 hrs at 60ma L70. For occasional usage (i.e. 1 hours/day) that will take years until the degradation becomes apparent.
Got my package. Wow that was fast.
Thank you very much.
Will have to find some time to play with themâŚ.
Got a notice from the post office in my mailbox yesterday
I have no idea why that time they droped a notice in the mailbox instead of the parcel like for the previous leds but i was lucky enough to be able to go there today (as i am usually working during opening hours) and take the parcel.
It looks like it was opened (customs ?) but everything is fine and i am happy with the leds :)
Last shipping update on mine, according to USPS is that it departed âSUVARNABHUMI MAIL CENTRE (SMC), THAILANDâ on November 1st. No idea where it went from there.
@David - There are two possibilities:
- The shipment is on the queue to be loaded on the airplane at SMC (which will then head to the States).
- The shipment has already landed at LA or JFK (or Honolulu if shipped to Hawaii), but is still being unloaded from the warehouse to be scanned.
Once itâs scanned by USPS it will appear as âProcessed through facilityâ at either LA or ISC NY before heading to the customs.
Whatever case it will be, once it shows processed at SMC, it will usually take 3-10 days to appear in the USPSâs tracking as arrived in U.S (in the case of Airmail/ePacket during non-seasonal period).
WOW, C01 light has hope again?
Yes! Please! :+1:
Yeah!!!
Red 3400K, Blue 5800K. I missed the cw blue C01 and got a red one instead. Plus there are never enough warm white flashlights in a houshold.
(WB: 5000K)
See what those LEDs made me doing out of frustration about not getting C01âs?
(sorry for picture spaming from my side )
Edit: And donât forget Josâ request for hosts
Is it possible to get these in 2200-2700K too? I have a lot of LED candles that I want to change out the LEDs on. Could possibly do a group buy if others are interested.
Mine arrived today! Thanks again rngwn! Iâm hoping to put some of them to use soon!
As far as customization goes, 10k would be a minimum, and the binning will be all over the place, and some or even much of these might not be marketable. I find this quite a bit messy for my liking.
I think that even with grossly inaccurate binning there maybe enough people to get you to 10K. If I buy a 100 and there will be 30 that have a good tint that is fine with me. Unlike smd-leds, the tint of 5mm leds are simple and fast to check by eye with a plain 5 dollar led-tester.
Maybe you can do it the form of an interest list to take out much of your risk. Estimate an approximate price and divide it in lots of 100 or 200, and see how far the list gets you. If you are close enough to 10K you can try to order them.
I like to see those very warm (2200K?) high CRI 5mm leds becoming available and also warm 3mm leds, I could start an interest list for you if you like?
Well thatâs certainly a nice perspective. I probably wonât do this right away, though. You can do the interest list, but I canât give words on when I would actually do it. Just like how C01 list currently goes
Although, the âmessyâ scenario I mentioned of is when they do bin the parts and I get some good bins and some bad bins, I will have to somehow sell all of them. In that cases, I will have to deal with several SKUs in the inventory, which is what I think the âmessyâ part of the ordeal. One thing is for sure, since this is a customized part, the best bins probably wonât come cheap.

2200K would be really something .

It is fine if it will not happen right away. To fill an interest list takes at a month or more so no hurry. For an interest list to work I do need a price indication and which led(s) we are trying to get.
Thank you sooo much for these! I got my order last week of 100 3400K and have slowly been sprinkling the joy of warm HI CRI LED light 10 lumens at a time. Just doing button cell keychain, an old 2AAA medical light⌠and such so far. I have a couple 12 and 30 LED projects in the works to use up half the stash already.
âŚ.so I just ordered another 100 3400K. Not to hoard them, I just never want to run out! They seem to be finding homes rather quickly just turning craptastic little lights into fantastic.
For now Iâve changed some of my LED candles out to the 3400K 5mm LEDs modded with a Rosco Cinegel #3407 orange filter in front. The high CRI really compliments the professional filter, and the color is amazing. I will try to take some comparison shots between original (monochrome orange LED), modded, and modded with filter. Iâm currently away from home so Iâll be doing some mods next week.

Does anyone know if these will fit in this light
