Finally after having this light for about 3 years and initially melting the giant 73mm reflector I finally got around to modding it into something useful and I am in love!
I found a replacement SST90 reflector as a replacement that was perfect. It is aluminum and is 73mm in diameter, and 51mm deep. I used a XML2 T6 5000k on a 20mm copper sink from vestureofblood. It is using a 3 speed circuit, and I created the custom glow ring with IV line and good quality glow powder. I also modified it to use 1 x 26650 instead of 3 D batteries.
This light is a serious thrower with excellent spill!
Enjoy the pics! I wish I had of snapped some during the modding process.
I wish I had your skills, as I have many old school lights. For my old lights, I usually just replace the bulb with a PR based LED, and I am good to go.
Very nice! What amps are you running it? and did you take care of any heatsinking? Pity indeed you did not take any build pictures, but still: very nice!
I used a huge copper plumbing cap with Old lumens solder copper-mixture to fill it in. It fits fairly snug and the LED is mounted on a VOB (vestureofblood) copper sink.
I used a PVC cap, drilled it out with a stepped bit and added a spring and mounted the 3amp board to the top of the spring. Then I soldered the negative wire to the switch.
Thanks to everyone for the link to the reflector. Now nitroz we know how big the reflector is (huge) can you maybe show us a picture with it in your hand? Edit. The light that is.
It’s IV line cut to size. I then super glue the first end and fill it with Glowinc V10 powder. Once it is full I add more super glue to the second end and connect them together. I can make any size I need.
I could not skull that light full off my favorite beverage. Well maybe I could but I would be a mess afterwards. It looks bigger than an olympic torch. Thanks for the rest off the pictures. Again very nice and well executed.
