1st Light Mod Advice - Convoy M21A - parts / tools needed

Hi all,

Fell down the rabbit hole of flashlights last year and have an ever increasing collection (mainly on the cheaper functional end).

Have Wurkkos FC11C / TS22 with 70.2 / Sofirn HS21 / Sofirn BLF LT1 / Convoy S7 SS 519a 4500 / Convoy S7 SS SFT25r / Convoy M21A SFT40 /Convoy S21G Ti SFT70 3000k / Convoy M21c LHP73b 4000k on the way.

I’d like to try my hand at some simple modding and the M21A whilst a nice host doesn’t do much for me with the STF40 in. I will purchase a bigger body dedicated thrower at some point, but for now looking for something like the TS22 with more throw in the M21A body.

My thoughts are either a 70.3 with 6v8A driver, or look at the LHP531 or LHP73B.

What driver options are available for these lights? I’d like to do something a little different so don’t really want a standard LHP531 with 10A driver as this is available off the shelf.

I see the M21A uses a 20mm driver, is it feasible to reduce the convoy 22mm 20A driver down to 20mm? Or same question for the LumeX1 driver - I know it is lower power but appears very well thought of efficiency wise. Any other driver / emmitter oprions you reccomend?

I think I could solder a wire from the driver to the MCPCB but would prefer an LED that came on the MCPCB as I think you need a hot plate etc to install correctly?

Looking forward to some advice for a new modifier.

Make yourself at home, joelonghair!

OMG Raccoon you have the best pictures of Ben Affleck.

70.3 or 50.3 ?

2 Thanks

The M21A is one of my favorite Hosts.
I currently have a SFT40 4000K with a 8A Buck Driver in mine.
I used to have a B35AM 4500K with a OP Reflector and it was very nice but it didn’t throw as far as I liked.
Some 22mm drivers may be able to be sanded down.
There’s also a 20mm to 17mm Brass adapter which will open up your driver options.
The Lume drivers require an E-switch host, the M21A uses a mechanical switch so a Lume won’t work.
