[2026-07-28] Forum engine update applied [**iPhone / iPad testers needed please!**]

Hi everyone, I just applied a routine update to the forum engine that includes some security patches. This update also brings some other possibly visible changes that I still need to look into a bit more. If you run into any new issues with this update please post them in this thread. Thanks a lot!

I am seeing an issue with the page layout at certain moderately narrow browser window widths. It doesn’t seem to break usability, but I’ll still try to fix it ASAP.

Looks like there are now more reactions (although the button behaves weird because it always shows :+1:).

(And now it says “You’ve performed this action too many times. Please wait 21 seconds before trying again.”)

3 Thanks

This was when you tried to add/change a reaction?

Correct, tried to change it a few times, then this was shown in a dialog popup.

Huh, yellow and red hearts.

Also I’m unable to remove a reaction. There’s an animation, but it’s not removed.

1 Thank

It’s probably because I disabled it after you had added it.

I’m trying the :handshake: reaction, it feels to me like the most polite symbol to say “thanks” for a post, which is my intended idea for that button (and not as a “+1” or “like” concept a-la-Reddit).

3 Thanks

:handshake: kinda looks like the two parties agree to a contract.
It’s not a real issue–just thought I’d point that out. :+1:

1 Thank

Yeah I know, it’s not the clearest option, but even the :+1: from before I think was being interpreted by some as an “upvote”, and it was even used/abused when arguments broke out to show support. So I’ve been meaning to change it to something else, but suggestions are still welcome.

2 Thanks

Indeed. The :+1: was an affirmation or approval or just a thankful nod. The :handshake: doesn’t feel appropriate in these situations. How does it affect earlier reactions?

That’s exactly what I mean when I click that button. It’s like a “well said” or “fully agree with your opinion”.

1 Thank

I believe they won’t change.

I like the , but that could imply infatuation.
How do I give a ?

Yes, it gives me that impression too personally.

I don’t know if this is related to what you’re talking about or not but on two separate phones in horizontal mode there is about 15% of the space on the right that is not utilized. I can’t say for sure this is new as I rarely use the horizontal mode but I tried it because of your comment.
This is on Chrome.

Yep, that’s the issue.

I see that the :+1: is back.
I actually prefer the :+1:, though it doesn’t matter that much.

EDIT:
No matter what the symbol is, people will use it in arguments.

1 Thank

Ok for now I reverted the reactions icon change (which in turn had been automatically changed by this update). If we think of something less ambiguous I can change it later on. For now it should behave as before, please confirm in previous and new threads.

1 Thank

The reaction widget on the left looks a bit redundant, but I guess that’s how they implemented it now.

I don’t seem to have the unread category now. Everything is listed under the “New” category.

Can you please try this direct link and let me know if it shows what you would expect?

How about a middle finger button.
Wait hear me out.
You have to press it twice with an hour minimum in between each press before it displays.
Maybe they’d be less arguments if you could just hit that button and walk away.
