20700 Batteries What is real?

Taking the very best 18650 compared to the 20700B and you just got 25% more runtime. I’m surprised 20700 haven’t taken off yet.

Well, price and size, and if they are just an interim stepping stone to 21700's. $8 here: liionwholesale.com/products/panasonic-sanyo-ncr20700b

I got one, and a couple 20700A's. Hhmm, I sure dunno what to do with them... Using one in a 26650 light that, if your'e lucky, takes a 70 mm cell, but sure doesn't make much sense when you have higher performance options like a LiitoKala 5000.

So... What usage scenario makes any sense for these things? They are a consumer item with no place to go...

At this point they only make sense if you can take advantage of their smaller diameter by boring out a 18650 tube or custom making a tube for it.

Yep, they are boring - just sit'n there....

I’m not surprised at all. Its still too new. Nobody makes flashlights that fit these cells yet. Sure you can put them in 26650 lights, but those batteries are 5,000 to 5,200 mah and cheaper as well.

It might be 6 months or a year when 20700 being sold in more stores and flashlights are made for them.

Shhhh…. don’t tell…… they are …THIS WEEK!!! P60…20700…… SECRET! :innocent: TL

What was that TL? I couldn’t hear you. :stuck_out_tongue:

Tom, you could send those 2 A’s over here and let me see what 3 50.2’s think of em… HKJ’s site shows they hold up better than virtually anything at a 30A drain, can’t find a 26650 cell that will best em. Can’t find 2 for myself anywhere either, at the moment.

According to “Mooch” the Samsung 21700 cells might be available for purchase in a few weeks, from enercig.com.

Mooch rates the new iJoy 26650 at 30A continuous. Liionwholesale has them instock

Will try those, thanks Robert.

A new option in 20700 cell size, from iJoy:

I got a pair of Sanyo NCR20700A from TomE to test in a couple of lights. The most impressive for me was in a Convoy C8 with a copper pill from ryansoh and XP-L W2 2B emitter. It only dropped like 238 lumens over a 2 minute test in the light box, pretty sweet!

6.63A at the tail on turbo, with lumens numbers like this…

At start, 1728.45
at 30s, 1566.30
at 60s, 1538.70
at 90s, 1511.10
at 120s, 1490.40

The above test was with the Sanyo A cell fresh off the XTAR Rocket charger at 4.22V, ended at 4.10V.

In my triple 50.2 light the 20700A gave 24.40A for 11,833.5 lumens, an increase over the 5000mAh LiitoKala 26650 (23.12A 11,488.5) The drop when running was very comparable to the larger cell, showing 9211.5 at 60 seconds as compared to the big blue at 9,004.5 at 60. Remarkable to me that a ~3200mAh cell can hold it’s own against a top ranked 5000mAh cell! Not to mention the size differential between 20700 and 26650. Impressive results, now to get my hands on some of these A series Sanyo’s!

Thanks Tom! Really appreciate your help on this!

It's all good. Glad to see those results! Nice!

True, if we could get them somewhere, somehow, and be able to use them. Weird, only IMRBatteries seemed to have them, and that was only for a short time, guess limited stock.

Any more comments or updates about your 20700 bored C8 tube? IMO this is the best way to utilize the increased performance capabilities of these 20700 cells. I assume you used a boring bar tool on the lathe? Any difficulties with the tube being too thin or anything?

I’m thinking about making a quad dedomed XPG2 C8 light and using a 20700 cell. Four ~17mm TIRs (like used in a S2+) should just fit in the C8. This setup should make about 3000 lumens and 90 Kcd in a nice compact light.

:open_mouth: I obviously missed this when you posted it Dale, wow. :+1:

What kind of wall thickness did that leave the tube having??

I did some measurements on the latest C8 tube. ID is 18.62mm. Smallest OD at the threads is 21.49mm. The 20700 cells are 20.2mm wide, so with a bored ID of 20.5mm that leaves about 0.5mm wall thickness at the minimum. It would be thicker for most of the tube. I’m not sure if this thinness is getting into dangerous territory or not.

Thanks EasyB…… :+1:

I kept it as thick as possible, the 20700 cell pushes in, not tight enough to keep it from coming out but it doesn’t slide in and it sure doesn’t rattle! lol

Yeah, it’s probably too thin, where they cut the flats for the branding. Otherwise I think it would probably be all right. I’m wondering if we could convince J-Dub to convince Simon to bore a run of C8’s to fit the 20700?

I asked J-Dub.
