22500 battery to modify triple AAA lights

Your thoughts on using these batteries to replace triple AAAs?.Many of those useless 9 or 12 led stubbys could be modded to xmls?

Lennart

Capacity could be overstated.

Reflectors needed for those stubbyes, pills, to go with XM-L, so I would say no.

That battery format is still inferior to 18650.

You'd better buy some triple AA flashlights with 1 led and mod them. And use LSD's.

If you really want a powerfull light from the start go with 18650 hosts, why buy triple AAA with several LEDs hosts and mod them. There are several flashlights that use triple AAA, but with a adaptor (include) can use a 18650.

Lennart, there are a lot of people looking for these. Even if Hikelight is right, with respect, it's kind of irrelevant, because there are already a lot of 3 * AAA lights out there, and nothing is going to change that. I'd say most of US have at least one of them, too. And, when people realize how badly AAA's suck, they want the ideal battery that fits, and 22500 would be that.

The link you put above is the only place I can find so-called "ICR22500" cells. I am a member here, but I was searching (yet again) for this kind of cell tonight, and this (now slighly dated) thread came up on one of the very few links out there which reference 22500 cells. And, most of THOSE links, point back to the Alibaba site. The topic has also come up on CPF, with the same link, and a laser pointer forum, with... the same link. It seems, there is only 1 manufacturer of them out there, and none are available on the retail market at this time. I think one of the other forum members said the minimum purchase was 500. That is probably too high to support a group buy here, or even CPF. And, if someone wanted to sell the remainder on Ebay or somewhere, well, there wouldn't be a big profit margin selling cheap cells one at a time.

I think the best plan might be to convince a niche reseller to take the financial risk and make a bulk order, and sell it as a complement to their business. Someone like Kallie's Kustoms, Lighthound, or perhaps even Shiningbeam. Maybe they could be talked into it(?). Then again, this kind of cell seems to be a natural for Kaidomain or DealExtreme to carry--so maybe it could be suggested to them as well. I mean, if they can make money selling anti-reflective glass 'lenses' and individual reflectors, there's got to be far more demand for this. Maybe if enough of us email them to start carrying it, they will.

The closest things right now to this cell are:

18500. This seems to be our best option at this time. Wrap it in paperboard or something to make it wider. Still way better than 3 * AAA. But not ideal.

22650 (same length as 18650, just wider). Too long to fit in most 3 x AAA lights, especially ones with twisty tailcaps. Ones which take them, are usually a tight squeeze, even with the protection circuit removed, and considering it's bigger than an 18650, and usually involves shoving to see if it will fit, it can be stressful from a safety standpoint. Some lights are made to take both 18650 and 3 x AAA, and those would do best with a 22650 I'd think, but those lights are also larger than they need to be for either AAA or 18650 applications.

14500. This is "AA" size, so it's even narrower. And, 3 AAA's is about the same capacity as 1 AA.

I wonder if there is some odd size that is available out there, that would fit better than the above. Like, when Ultrafire started selling their 18340's, I didn't become aware until seeing them at random, because I wasn't searching for that size (because it didn't exist before that). But, considering 18340's did make their debut within the last couple(?) years, garners hope the same can happen for 22500. I do think 22500's would sell better than 18340's.

I think the Alibaba seller is the same company as bestinone/powerwholesale.

Powerwholesale has this battery but it's marked as "sold out". http://www.powerwholesale.net/lithium-liion-battery-22500-37v-2300mah-battery-1pcs-p-239.html

Thanks for your answers. Since I asked, someone here on the forum

mentioned these extensions;
