2500MAH, NiZN 1.6v AA battery ?

I’m not sure if these were mentioned here before, but have anyone tested or used this type of rechargeable battery before ? It is supposedly similar to other rechargables, but with a higher 1.6 volts versus the typical 1.2 volts of NiMH and NiCd.

“Disadvantages

NiZn batteries cannot be discharged to 0V, end-of-discharge voltage must be 1.3V or the cell will be damaged.”

I would advise against using them in any mission critical application. They tend to not like being over-discharged.

Review: Power Genix NiZn AA Cells

FlashPilot post

Interesting.
so in reality these cells really need a protection circuit like Li-Ion cells need to protect against over-discharging.

I think if one is careful about how they get discharged it should be ok. I’ve read about photographers using them in on camera flash units and they suddenly just stop working.

We are so spoiled by eneloops and how sturdy they are.

I did a review on them as Kodachrome40 linked, but it’s quite hard to charge them properly without a special charger meant for NiZn cells. I still do think NiZn technology is at its infancy and they can be unpredictable and fickle.

Just noticed, GearBest lists them as 2500mAh, which is… just wrong.

these need protection like li-ion if they are ever to be successful.
the ones i tried did not last long.maybe 6 cycles.run to regulation dropout on my edc arc ls

They’re nice in incans and boost drivers for a little extra brightness. There are reports of reliability problems and high self discharge. Just treat them like lead acid batteries and keep them topped off and they’ll last a few dozen cycles at least. Two of my four cells died early but it’s probably because I over discharged them.
