3 new mag builds

hello,

I know some of you may be on CPF but if not I would like to share 3 of my builds that I completed today.

Any comments/questions are welcome

cheers!

Three (now four!) new custom mag builds! (updated 8-30-12) | Candle Power Flashlight Forum!

Nice! I love the sst-90 one. I almost bought the same thing you did but decided not to.

Yeah, it looks like it has a perfect beam pattern! But, it could just be the camera…

i was surprised at the beam pattern myself… its a rebel reflector widened about 1.5-2mm

the beam pattern is nearly identical to the olight sr90… at least the hotspot is

Yep, saw them over there. The Mag85 was the first build I ever did, many years ago. I wish I had kept it.

I take the switch out and then I take a flat head screwdriver and slip it under the snap ring (at one of the two tapered ends) and I pry it away from the body and push down, till the end starts to come out of the groove and keep pushing till the whole ring comes out and falls out through the body.

thats good to know… 2 of the builds i did i ended up soldering wires to the switch then soldering the drop in wires to those when they poked through… i wasnt sure if the little retainer ring would scratch coming out or if the switch would make negative contact, but in the future now i know! thanks

should be fine, i used heavy copper 16ga wire, so a little bit extra wire should be no problem

So how is the throw compared to the sr90? Equivalent? :O

i would doubt that, the rebel reflector is half the size of the sr90… still we will see… sun just starting to set here

i do not have a stock sr90 to compare to, my sr90 was modded with the top bin sbt-90 for 52% more throw

That is some serious output you’ve been toying with. Love it
From the read it seems you havent really encountered any bigger problems with the mods which may encourage others.
Sweet mods. Have fun.

the only issue i had was that i may have used too much wire since i couldnt get the mag retaining ring out so i had to solder wire to the switch, drop it in, then solder that to the teflon wires on the dropins/or sockets

i dont think that will be an issue since its only like an additional 3 inches of wire and i used 16 guage copper braided wire.

plus its not like im pulling 10 amps lol

9 amps on the sst90 but thats after the buck driver

Very, very nice.

LOL, all I did today was swap some fresh batteries into a 3D mag I bought dead at an estate sale. But I did find out it works!

Looking forward to see which one you end up liking the best, and why.

so far the mag85… i find myself loving incans… dont get me wrong the sst90 is a very very close second

speaking of incans a mag458 build is next

Very nice, jmpaul. Congratulations on your first mods. Do you mind disclosing the cost for doing each one? I am just curious.

mag c approx $65 incl batteries
sst90 mag approx $130 excluding batteries (i already have 3x 26650 kk)
mag85 approx 75-85 including enloops

these are just estimates… some of the stuff i got for free like the enloops and all the hosts but i added them in to the price (amazon rewards)
