Hello everyone. In my job i am doing wall repairs and painting (mainly residential).
Often the exsisting lights have been removed, especially in the basement so i would like a lantern style light to keep the room lit up.
So far ive been making use of my single 18650 with ceiling bounce but the light gets hot in a jiffy and battery life is questionable. Do you have a recommendation on a 4x18650 light? Not planning on spending more than i have to (less than $100). A big bonus would be is i can put one of those white dome things on the light to make it less directional but its not a must, also usb charging would be real nice. I would also use this light outdoors for camping and such.

A soda can light with plastic drinking cup will do fine.
In the 4x18650 department, i suggest you have a look at the Q8 project which will essentially bring us a SRK on steroids (6000 lumen) for $40. But it won’t be available before a few month at least. A simple white plastic cup will make a decent diffuser. No usb charging though.
Did you consider one of those 10/20/50W flood projector that run off the AC? They are rather cheap and quite handy.
The product pictures on those are hilarious. Especially the “stadium lighting”

They look like nice little lights though. Do you have one? Do they compare well to typical 150W halogen spots?
I don’t have that much experience with them… I only have a 10W one i recently used while i was refurbishing a bedroom - painting mostly. I could work at night. A 30W would have been better, probably comparable to a 150-200W halogen - without the heat.
I quickly tried it outside and it does a nice job at lighting up a tree from below. I just saw some at 10 euro this afternoon. They are getting even cheaper. I can’t tell how long they last though. Time will tell. I’m guessing that swapping/replacing the COB led is rather easy… as for the electronic part…

I have decided on a Haikelite MT07. I’ve been reading its a bit finicky with batteries, do any of you have suggestions what batteries are most suitable for it?
