4x18a sbt-90.2 mod in progress (Photos Added)

Driver: sofirn sp36 anduril sanded down to fit. USB connector lines up and cord seats.
Requires expanded + ring and brass - contact/driver retainer to be cut from brass sheet. Photos soon.

emitter: sbt-90.2 on 32mm from intl-outdoor. copper filler disc shaped but not fitted for depth. i don’t have a lathe or i’d spin the head and expand the mcpcb pocket to fit the 32mm.

While planning to make the brass mounting ring for the sp36 driver I found a flaw in the design. The battery tube only makes contact with the tabs used to secure the original driver. Two small contact points. If the surface of the driver retaining screws protrude beyond the brass they introduce additional resistance and decrease output. If the screws are slightly recessed there would be four very small areas where the tube makes contact with the brass circuit trace. A contact/retaining ring as planned to mount the sp36 driver would likely be beneficial for original drivers as well by increasing contact area and facilitating a slight recess for the driver screw heads. Sheet brass arrives tomorrow.

Copper disc to fill original mcpcb pocket in place and secured with a minimal layer of arctic ceramic epoxy. Just needs more fine sanding to remove a little more anodizing and a bit of polishing.

Sofirn SP36 Anduril driver reduced to fit and sitting in place.

Negative contact/retaining ring and positive contact disc from 18 ga brass sheet ready to solder to driver.

Finally found a bit of time for this. A litle sanding and polishing with 600 grit silicon carbide…

I’ll continue to the driver when the sira20dp fets arrive from arrow.

Sounds good

Contact ring and disc mounted.
Contact side. Solder spot was created by a bit of paste solder used as a heat indicator and will be cleaned later.

Component side.

Driver set in place. The usb adapter is inserted to test alignment of the charging port and connector.

Next: screw holes in the - contact ring, fet upgrade, desolder/resolder switch wires to install the switch, and a thorough cleaning.

This is going to be HOT! :+1:

Nice!

Driver screws installed with the tops just below the surface. It was a challenge getting the holes in just the right spots. Original screws installed but longer screws ordered.

Nice. So far.

Nice mod!
