6V low profile front light for mountain bike

I’m after suggestions for a low profile, bright, good throw (and ideally weaker but wider illumination pattern too) LED light for an e-mountain bike.

It needs to run on 6v as the bike has that output from the battery connector (actually, it’s a take-off from the motor), and will ideally stay permanently on the handlebars so should be about as thick as the handlebars and mount close to it. If not, (and beam pattern may mean more bulk is needed) then it should be easily mountable and dismountable.

Anyone make anything like this? I could potentially step down the 6v DC to give me an 18650 level output, I suppose - but are there recommendations for 6v units that people know of? Links/experiences welcomed.
thanks.

I’m buddies with Jeff Bezos. He really likes our money…

I’m not sure why you want to go through all the trouble of converting from 6. Just go to straight 18650.

I would prefer multi lens to SPREAD the beam.

Here is an example….and there are a lot more there. This one has two batteries but they are parallel so it’s still 3.7 volts. Just take the hour/output claims with a bag of salt. Buy it, try it and if it’s a big fat piece of junk, send it back.

I’ve got those sorts. But there’s hassle in recharging them etc. And as I have a perfectly good, huge battery on the ebike, I’d rather use that, for convenience. mostly. And I won’t forget to charge it……

Good point.

A quick check under 6 volt in Amazon did not show anything promising. Mostly old style lights. Maybe look of a light that mounts two li-ion in series.

I’m also looking to mount two lights on my motorcycle but then, those are 12V.

Good luck.

something like this?

Need to buy it stock, or can you hacque it?

A wide-input driver (up to 2 CR123As, 1-or-2 18650s, etc.) can take the 6V just fine. A 2-cell buck driver that can still maintain output down to 3V per cell could still hang on to 6V from your battery. Etc.

This’d be an example of the latter.

so is the output when running at 6v still likely to be good? (and, for the ones I’ve quickly looked at, they tend to switch to a low power mode to conserve battery, which is not what I need…… anyone got any links to a good one for this purpose?)

Unno, I don’t do mountainbiking.

That, you’d have to ask those who do.

I meant it from a led performance perspective……

6V power take-off? Is that intended for lighting?

The power take-off must come from some sort of internal buck converter. I suggest measuring the actual voltage output, 6V is very odd and some buck drivers may refuse to work properly at that level.

Lights designed to take power from an USB connector may work well. For example: 3-Mode 600LM LED Bicycle Headlamp (FastTech SKU4475100)

A couple options:

This or that I found too but not while inputting “USB powered” in the search field and restricting the search to Bike Lights. There may be further options not correctly adressed in the search engine.

Cheers ^:)
