I'd love to test from my ~ 15m drop from apartment to the middle Sky Bridge. But then my country has very tough killer litter laws + lots of CCTV around, so i can't try that. Ugh. Need to check out where can i test higher.
Washing machine spin cycle, about 350Gs. I did made the zinc carbon cell wonky at the end. Changed it out.
Changed out the zinc carbon cell and everything was ok
Hikelite, done. This means that all the torture tests done to Fenix / Olight which you see on youtube/CPF isn't all that extreme. They are harsh, yes...but not extreme. They need to be testing at maybe 20m, 30m?
Need to search for a suitable location. I can throw yes...but it's difficult to capture. My wife wouldn't help me! LOL!
Haha awesome :d, but still i won't try this out with my lights!
Especially after trying my KD C8 out 30 minutes ago , going to take some beamshots tonight if it stops raining to compare it with my former 'beast' which has now turned into a lil puppy :d
Ian, those are granite tiles produced for outdoor use, that's one of the hardest stuff around. They don't even chip like concrete (if it chips, then that's energy absorbed). I'll try the washing machine spin cycle tomorrow. Need to google the Gs.
I won't try those boiling water or freezer tests you see on CPF. It's probably common sense that there would be absolutely no issues. Flashlights/LEDs do work in very hot or very cold environments as you'd have seen on documentaries etc. I even used dry ice to cool my Sky Ray triple XM-L for more lux. LEDs do change colour when immersed in liquid nitrogen, by the way.
New videos uploaded, 5 min in ~350G spin cycle. Centrifuge made the battery a bit wonky, changed it out and A-ok!
If you searched youtube apparently it takes quite a bit in a barbecue/blow torch to vent Li-Co. Thermal runaway temp is in 200+ degrees, can't remember the exact fig.
Glad you like it. I'm not wasting the light coz i have relieved this of EDC duty, but just to check how much abuse a budget light can take since previously all the limelight is on the branded stuff I guess. LOL!
BTW, a Tank007 M10 should withstand abuse much better, it's SOLID. I estimate if the thin tubed TK-703 can do 7m, the M10 can easily do 3X. The glass will shatter into powder but that's about it.
DX does sell a lot of replacement glass in various sizes. $2 or so shipped for a pack of 10.
When did you obtain that copy? I wonder if the current stock has the same build, driver and solder joints?
As most of you already have heard, these make great gifts for the non-flashaholic. I wonder how many times the light could widthstand repeated drops from 4-5 ft? lol...but I won't make you sit there and drop it over and over forever. :)
How about an "accidental" drop-kick down those stairs or a "pond skip" across the asphalt? lol They're sorta like real life scenarios... :)
Repeated 4-5 ft tests, most prob the switch will fail first. I have posted above a vid which showed the light skipping down a flight of steps/stairs and hitting the handrail etc. I purchased it from DX.
There really is no way of protecting the lens. Some drops will shatter it, some drops will not. Just have to replace the glass from DX or UCL. It's like 2-3 bucks for a 10-pack. LOL!
