A Day of Fails and Other Fun with Osram Oslon SSL 4000K 92CRI Emitters. Day Two: Fail becomes a Win. New emitters and a new tint

Djozz. I need some clarification on the difference between the Oslon Square, and the Oslon SSL.
I just realized that the first 4000K emitter with the ugly green tint is an Oslon Square, whereas the second emitter with the nicer tint is an Oslon SSL 150. ( the tint is close to an XML 4C tint). These seem to be two very different animals.

I also have a 4000K SSL 80, a 4500K Square, and a 5000K SSL 150 to try out.
How different are these emitters?

I see now on your pictures that they are Squares . I do not see why the tint of the Square should be any worse than the SSL leds but it appears to be.

The Square is physically different in that it has a bigger die (xpg size) than the ssl leds (xpe size). I actually never checked the exact size but you can see it well in the ssl150 led. I think that the small die is even needed optically for the ssl80 to get the 80deg beam angle. But again, why use a different phosfor mixture for the Square??
