I want headlights like these…. maybe the car too if someone is buying….
I’m not buying it. For you or anyone. I want to see how they work in snow and other adverse weather. Oh nevermind no one’s going to take that car out in the snow. It’ll probably just default to a standard, guess what, normal high and low. It’s certainly interesting that people are trying to push the technology. When I started my wife’s car today and put it into drive too fast, it wouldn’t let me go anywhere it made me put it back into park and then back to drive before it would let me move. Some of this stuff is not ready for primetime.
Audi first employed matrix headlights a few years ago
(along similar lines, the Tucker Torpedo has a swiveling center headlight…in 1948)
And Norway counts as snowy, doesn’t it?
Too bad the DOT is stuck in the past.
Audi Digital Matrix LED Headlights First Look: The E-Tron Tech The US Can't Have - SlashGear there are quite a few limitations in actual use of the “lane lighting” but that is only part of the “system”. Again great to see people pushing technology, but how do you write up regulations with all those limitations for the “system” to work. They’ve got cameras and speed limits and Road lines that need to be visible and the next car system might not have all those limitations after you spent a whole lot of effort trying to write up regulations to apply. And nhtsa did an extensive study/ report in 2015. There were issues. I haven’t read the report yet but I have downloaded it.
