Hello bright people,
I’ve got some older Sipik SK98’s with real CREE bulbs in them, and would like to buy a couple more. Lately crap LaticeBrite or worse bulbs have been showing up in everything I get. Are there still good SK98’s out there relatively cheap? I could probably find an X700, but I really do like SK98’s for camping, in the boat, or for my 8 & 9 year olds to use. They are a decent cheap tool. I’m good to go with china ordering…
I just ordered 2 of these in the 3 mode version: https://www.fasttech.com/search?sh98 They used to say these SH98’s were superior to the SK98 in the Fasttech reviews. I’ll try a couple for $7 each.
Well, my kids have been using 18650 lights for ages. But then, not at camp where they, or other kids will have an unsupervised week to screw with them. Good point.
So, YOU GAVE ME a good opportunity to go BLF nuts (I’m blaming you!) I bought:
The chargers will be handy. I have a LOT of stupid cheap 18650 flashlights, and free but great laptop pull batteries. I like to give them away, but I can’t unless I give away a charger with them. So now I’m set to give away a few more junky to me, but amazing to them, 18650 light/battery/charger combos. I just have to give them a stern warning on lithium battery safety.
I bought 2 x SK98, I think it was from FT but not sure, it was a long time ago, they were $7+ went for expensive ones, they ended up to be same $3 crap with hollow pill and fake “cree” led.
Now they wait until I find someone who can make me a copper insert…
I have 6 of these bought on a Amazon deal for iirc £5.99 or $7.50 for the 6.
Your word “craptastic” describes them well as they truly are crap, as I expected them to be, but they were bought as a home for some lap top pulls.
One was DOA & one died after a few seconds of use.
The other 4 have somehow worked for nearly a year now even though they are by far the worst zoomies I have bought/own & are used regularly :person_facepalming:
The last and really only real sk98 I've found and bought 2 so far are here https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01JYQKX8E/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1 These are the updated models with XML2'S that are authentic Cree emitters I've swapped out the drivers, and wiring. Good solid current, so the whitest I've seen.
I will try to get a better close up when I get off Monday
