A reddit refugee needs a right angle work light

my current daily driver light is an emmisar D4K with nichia 519a emitters and i want something simmilar in a right angle. hank seems to sell an 18650 D4W light thats fairly similar but i wanted to check if there are better options out there before impulse buying it. I dont necessarily need a headband with it but a magnetic tail cap and high cri are a must.

Skilhunt: H04 (519a), H04 RC (519a), H300 (144AR)

If you like Hank’s stuff and are happy with the D4K, I don’t think there’s anything much better than the DW4. Get the dual channel version to be able to mix different colors or tints or the boost driver upgrade for better efficiency.

If you get a D4W make sure to request the stronger magnet upgrade. The standard one wasn’t strong enough. Maybe he includes them by default know I don’t know. I ran mine with a 18500 and that thing was rock solid on any metal surface. Which gives me hope it is still sticking somewhere and I find it back someday.

The H04 and H300 are great lights but the magnets are definitely underpowered. I had added a magnet inside the cap of the H04 (half assed) and glued an additional to the end of the H300 (ugly).

I stuck a magnet in the tailcap spring of the Zebralight H600 and it holds much better than I thought it would since the light is quite small and light for a 18650.

Since your carrying a 21700 light already, the Armytek Wizard Pro Max sticks very well considering it’s size. Probably the strongest default magnet on any angle light I have.

Great advice from @hilgerone (BTW, welcome to BLF!) The Armytek Wizard CR was actually on my shortlist when I was looking for a headlamp last year and it’s also a good option if the OP would rather have a 18650 light (some people find a 21700 light can maybe be too heavy to carry on a headband).

Thanks for the welcome! With r/flashlight on hiatus I decided to join up. Always crept around here once in awhile but always defaulted back to reddit.

The Pro Max definitely has some heft no doubt but artie59 listed one on Reddit a month or so ago with a sliced XHP 70.3 in the sand color and it was just to good looking to pass up. It will never see the headband but it comes with a belt pouch so that works when just using it as a work light. And it really pumps out some lumens.

I have a Wizard pro Nichia in my toolbox that stays in its headband anytime I need a headlamp. My old H04 lives in my pickup mounted in its headband too. I shuffle between the H600 and H300 for day to day carry (belt pouch) and mix in the D2 once in awhile too. Pretty happy with the magnet strength on the D2. I carry a right angle 90% of the time so I’ve got quite a collection of them. Hard to pick the best. I lean toward the H300 because I personally really like the UI, the 144ar has a tint that I personally really like, and to be able to just snap it on the charger at night is a really nice feature. If only it had a stronger magnet by default.

Thanks for signing up, hilgerone!

It’s a pleasure to know you, BBKanga!

Hey there, great to have you here!

DW4 is heavier than D4K, while packing less juice (18650 vs. 21700).

But yeah it’s as close to a D4K as it gets. Basically same everything.

Nothing else has the customize-ability as DW4.

Also consider Hank’s D2. It’s a right angle Hank light and that’s where the similarities end vs the DW4. They definitely serve different purposes. I suspect you’ll actually prefer the DW4 but it’s worth a look imo. I have 2!

yeah the weak magnet is a no go for me, i work on trucks and like sticking my torches to the body so i can have hands free light.

the d2 is a cute little light for sure but i dont think its going to have the battery life and outout i want. plus since its an even smaller light than i have i feel like itll last a week before i lose it

the Wizard cr looks pretty close to what im looking for, do you know what the warm and cool emitter options are and the respective CRI?
