Acebeam K70 Lemon (Problem) Thread

Got a K70 from the GB. For the most part it is working fine but I am worried after reading all of the other posts. It did make me take a closer look.

I now see one black spot on the emitter.

No consistent whine can be heard. My son can hear a whine for a couple of seconds when I switch to high but that is it.

There is a blue tint on the high settings. Actually I see no difference between 1900 lms and 2600 lms. Could this be a battery issue? I am using brand new LG Protected button top 3500mAh MJ1’s.

I see consistent flickering every 15 seconds, like maybe the K70 is trying to tell me something about my batteries but I see nothing in the documentation or on the web about what that means.

Maybe we need to do a “GWC” (Group Warranty Claim). What do you think djburkes?

The GB seller is easy to work with. I explained the dark spots and they offered a refund. I am conflicted… I just let it run for a while on high to observe its behavior and it’s solid so far. It is certainly hard to ignore the negative experiences floating around, so I feel like I’ll return it.

In the spirit of tinkering, are there known barriers (ignoring warranty) involved with reflowing a new XHP35 if it were to fail at some point? This conveniently ignores DIY solutions to any other potential flaws with the light.

I’m wondering the same thing. In my ideal world this light would have come with a NW emitter option so that’s what I’d replace it with if it with.

Offering $50 for unvanted buzzing or with black spots on emitter

Mine came with:

no black dots
no buzzing
no smoke
no blue on any level
no anno scratches or any other obvious imperfections

…you lucky guy…

I’m gonna send mine back in for a replacement on Monday. Fortunantely I got mine from a US seller, so it’s an easy trip from my house to the next state over.

I had not the courage to examine the light, but I decided to do it just now and I am lucky, the light is OK. No black dots,no fogging,no colors of any kind.
All modes are OK,but I saw that in strobe mode, the blinking frequency, was not the same.Every 2-3 sec, it became lower for a second, and then, higher again.
What do you think?

I think it is a dual level strobe, mine does that as well. It scrolls from one level, to a lower level and then back up to the first level, then repeats. It is not all that bad for a strobe function….

Got mine and couldn’t be happier. After reading this thread, did everything but give it a DRE and can’t find a thing wrong with it. The output is insanely high, pure cool white beam, and puts all my other throwers to shame.

Yep. Many lights have this feature. I think the idea is more disorientation with multiple levels of strobe instead of having it constant. I know I sure wouldn’t want either pointed at me. :stuck_out_tongue:

My tint doesn’t get blue, but the tint change is very apparent. Level 5 tint is ~5,700k like an XPL HI V3 2B but at level 6 it jumps to ~7,000k, comparable to the tint of XP-L V6 1A .

Do you have to pay for shipping to return it? Also, do you get the refund right away or after they get it back?

Same for me.

I have given mine a long test on turbo on several nights with no issues.

This is the best reflector based thrower that I have.

My very best thrower is still my DEFT-X.

I rolled the dice and decided to keep mine. I’ve done some torture tests and other than an intermittent whine on mode 5, it works perfectly.

Mine seems to be all good. No whine or spots that I can detect. Easily my best thrower, this thing will throw and has some lumens when it gets there.

I was lucky. Tested by more than a week with NCR18650GA “unprotected”, without problem.

My K70 just arrived today and I think I can pretty much confirm the smoke and black dots are due to contaminants stuck to the silicone layer covering the emitter.

There were no black dots initially but once I powered it up to the highest level I saw a few whiffs of smoke so powered it off immediately. At that point I could clearly see a black spot on the emitter so I torn it down and cleaned the emitter with isopropyl alcohol soaked q-tips and also using a soft plastic dental pick to every so gently scrape off the debris stuck to the silicone… not an easy task with such a small object and 50+ year old eyes… but I was eventually successful removing the spot without any obvious damage to the silicone layer. Since that cleaning (it actually took two attempts - don’t ask!) it has stopped smoking and no more black spots have appeared.

One trick I’ve learned that minimizes the chances of introducing additional dust to glass and reflectors when disassembling lights is to unscrew the bezel and while holding a hand under the bezel turn the flashlight face down so that the bezel, glass and reflector all come out together as a stack. I then immediately place this stack bezel down and put some tape over the emitter opening of the reflector to keep any dust from sneaking in. Re-installing is pretty much doing the reverse… only tricky part is getting the reflector to align with the emitter/spacer… generally you just jiggle the head around (holding the bezel in place) until the reflector lines up and falls into place.
