Just put in some fresh batteries and there is a hissing/whining sound when the light is on the max brightness setting. When you put it on strobe then the hissing pulses along with the strobe...
Did you get the blackspots before even turning the light on or after some use?
I had direct drive lights with black spots above the clear layer that could be wiped out with some rubbing alcohol, and they were caused by either a bad reflow or poor heatsinking. I reflow the LED, re-applied thermal paste and it worked fine since. However if the blackspot are over the diode surface itself I don’t think you could simply clean it.
This is terrible. It’s bad quality control on Acebeam’s part. The black spots on emitters are usually caused by flux splattering on the led when soldering the leads to the led mcpcb or other stuff getting on the emitter then burning. If it were mine, I’d request a replacement or refund. If you’re really wanting the light then I’d ask for a replacement. I’m going to send the seller an email about the issues everyone is having with the K70 but you’ll need to contact them to contact them to have your light replaced or be refunded.
Really ? Map is about the price, not place of purchase.
If I tell someone where I got an Acebeam, or post a link to a website, that’s allowed - as the price is publicly visible on said sites.
Also it appears ( possibly ) the lemons were dished out for the group buy, and kept from general distribution.
Yep, piss poor assembly! I see this on shaved XHP50 and 70’s if (emitter) isn’t cleaned thoroughly and reflector lens, and inside the head are not blown out, of even the tiniest microscopic crap. Built a TK61 with a shaved 70 in it played with it for months, then one day it smoked, so something clinging to the inside fell into it? Saved it and works to this day. Send it back!
Whilst I feel bad for those of you now suffering at the hands of MicroscopicBlueBrainCells it has to be said that there is plenty of precedent from this appalling company. The warnings have been long and loud.
I guess we all have a tendency to ignore the experience of others in favour of learning for ourselves. Especially if the item is new and shiny and attractive. After the piss-poor QC and communication during the X60 fiasco (which was NEVER resolved) this company continues to release lovely “on-paper” lights with no attention to any kind of detail other than enforcing MAP to protect their quality reputation.
As much as I’ve been tempted by some of their recent releases, Acebeam remains firmly in my “never again” list.
I hope you guys get your issues sorted quickly by your dealer because you’ve got f-all chance of getting any sense from the manufacturer.
I checked mine for any black dots on yhe led and didn’t find any the led looks pretty clean and I see absolutely no dirt or debirs in the reflector or led surface, maybe something changed in the process of assemblying it, or a bad batch,
+1000. I would never go back to that company for any reason after how they screwed me on that GB, where they sold the rejects as good, but it looks like they are still raking in the money on sub-par lights, time after time. Says a lot for us buyers and those sellers, doesn't it?
Bet their boss is just rolling on the floor with laughter and stamping the OK on ten more models at the same time.
I bought 2x K70, the first has very light whining sound at max. And recently I also discovered that above level 3, the reflector bottom shows some foggy stain but not affect the output.
My second K70 has smoke that filled up the chamber make it foggy. I was not able to take a good photo or video about this because the smoke is consisted of very tiny particles. However the comparison photos between good one and foggy one is quite obvious side by side. Other than smoke, the second one also received with broken box, I believe is shipping handling issue as the soft sponge is quite thick. However, the reflector of this second set is perfectly smooth and shining.
Guess which is the smoke one?
For this I communicated to Acebeam and they want me to send back to them to rectify the issue and they will send me a new one. However due to perfect reflector which I am afraid the replacement might not have, I took the risk (warranty void) to dismantle the bezel and took out the lens and reflector; and I found the emitter surface has some stain. After using alcohol to clean up the surface and reassembled back the flashlight, now everything back to normal, no more smoke even 2 minute at level 6:) but added some dusts particle into the reflector… Haha….
Although got problems, I still like the K70:)
K70 used back K40’s XP-L MCPCB:
Some more photos of the Level 6 emitter (DSLR Lens set to F36, 1/8000s):
VIDEO……. Test your eyesight, can you see the smoke?: smoking xhp35
Mine has QC issues as well. No black spots on my LED, but the anno has a couple scratches and the reflector has a ding in it. Overall, I still judge the quality of my light to be very high. The output is cray cray. Mine makes noise at the higher outputs just like my K60, but neither has PWM.
