That’s a pretty exhaustive review, with teardown, very nice.
We can’t see the markings one the boost controller, but this looks like a LTC3787, a dual phase synchronous boost controller, I planned to use that one on a high power driver as well. Indeed it looks very well designed, the copper parts transferring the heat from the FETs to the body are a very good addition.
This isn’t necessarily true, the LTC3787 can limit the inductor current, effectively decreasing the output current as the input voltage decreases, or the output current could be limited depending on Vin by the MCU, the Acebeam E70 driver for example opt for for the later solution.
Considering the very high battery current needed at low Vin it would make sense that a limitation is in place, to check this measure the max output with a low battery (unless I missed it in your review).
I am sure you are correct in all the technical details you are explaining. I am not an electronics expert and as you know I usually turn to people of knowledge in electronics such as yourself. What I meant to say in the review is that the driver will keep the output stable for as long as the battery can provide the necessary power and then move down to the next lower level, keep that stable etc. The only other thing that affects output, is of course thermal control.
Yeah my comment was only regarding the max mode (I should have made that clearer), indeed you’re right for any of the other mode the output won’t change with battery voltage.

Great job what an awesome review… I was wondering if you were able to remove the bezel I have quite a bit of moisture behind the lens and I would like to rid the light of this pesky moisture. Been blasting turbo for some time but to my dismay moisture level remains the same😩

I wrote the review but I don’t control the platform it is posted on and had no idea they were so heavy on advertising. When I visit that website, I usually do so from a Windows PC with an ad blocker and it is very usable. I guess their mobile phone implementation is not great.
We tried. It’s not just the ad it keeps wanting me to sign up to an account that keeps popping up.
I only know about starting threads I’ve never post a review but I don’t understand how you have no control over where your review is posted?

He is a writer/reviewer, he doesn’t own or run the website. That’s what not controlling the platform means.
I just tested this in multiple browers on PC and everything looked reasonable. One banner add at the top and no pop-ups except the one asking for cookies. I even used a default browser with no adblocker installed and no settings tweaked, same thing.
@pol77 Mobile is apparently a different story. Using untweaked Chrome on Android, this website is unusable. The popups are so bad I would assume this site was malicious and write it off if I hadn’t aready seen the review on PC. Trust me, its REALLY BAD.
The website becomes useable on mobile if you use a better web browser though. I mostly use the Brave browser and the experience using that app is similar to the desktop experience for this website.
@3rdGen33 I strongly recommend switching to Brave (labeled Brave Private Web Browser, VPN on the Play Store). Not only does it block potentially dangerous and annoying popups, it kills ads on Youtube

I wrote a review, 3 years ago, and posted it on a website I had a good working relationship with at that time. Apparently, they have changed their policies regarding aggressive advertising on mobile platforms. I don’t know how I would be expected to have any control over that.
Zero Air has his own website. Self Built has his own website. In other words, they own the platforms they are writing for. Running a website isn’t for everyone.
