Adam Savage – 18650 Flaws – Lumafield Uses CT Scanners To Look Inside Batteries
Adam Savage discusses 18650 internals with Alex Hao and Andreas Bastian of Lumafield. The company recently released a report detailing what it found when it scanned one thousand 18650 batteries, using the company’s industrial CT scanners.
The bottom line is not a surprise for most BLF members: You get what you pay for.
- Buying from a well-known OEM manufacturer is recommended.
- Rebranded batteries from those same manufacturers are also okay.
- Cheap/low-end batteries should be avoided.
Out of the 1000 batteries that were tested, 33 had manufacturing defects that impacted safety. All were from cheap/low-end makers.
