Aliexpress Super Deals

Huh you’re right, I see that as well after looking through the listings. That is weird. I think I figured it out, the listing I was looking at has the wrong photos :open_mouth: But yes it does mention the triple lh351b

My order is shipped so I’ll hopefully find out soon.

I just got the cheapo alonefire UV light that comes with a filter.

  1. Light works fine. Single mode.
  2. I’ve never used a UV light with a filter. This is pretty cool seeing what glows.
  3. As I looked around our living areas, kitchen, bathrooms… getting this light was a huge mistake.

I built a S2+ Triple 365nm UV Mule with ZWB2 filter.
It was definitely eye opening using it around the house.

Just wait until you try a hotel room.

That might not be as bad as it looks. The chalky remains of evaporating (clean) water can sometimes draw as much attention as bodily fluids. I cleaned the bathroom wall three (!) times, and the “stains” didn’t disappear, they just moved. The only remedy as a finishing touch is to polish the wall with a dry cloth.

Agreed, carbonate deposits, cleaning products, soap scum all fluroesce, none are particularly gross. UV is just a tool, you have to know the science to know what you’re looking for/at.

This is a pretty good article on CSI body fluid fluorescence, it’s slightly gross so maybe not suitable for viewing while eating lunch if you’re easily grossed out…

The low cost of monochromatic LEDs and cheap coloured safety glasses makes me tempted to try the above techniques.

Ah, crap I thought this was one of the many UV threads. Sorry for derailing, on with the AliX deals!

My MATEMINCO A1S arrived

Pros:
It feels pretty nice in hand.
Comes with a braided USB cable.
Strobe and Turbo only accessible via short cuts(2C Turbo, 3C Strobe).
Simple UI.

Cons:
The Ramping is slower than I’d like.
It doesn’t have Anduril UI.

Double Oring:

Nice! Does it have ramping and stepped mode options?

No stepped, only smooth ramping.

Hello to all flashlight fans! I also made the same purchase. Despite the decent weight and a good heatsink, even in the “High” mode, after 2 minutes the brightness drops to 10%.

You’re going to love it here, vsynther!

Thanks for the info/photos and beamshot, @INeedMoreLumens !

I also recieved my A1S (that I will gift to my father) a few days ago, but didn’t have the time so far to test it out.

I basicly agree with all of your pro’s and cons; I’m happy that the Turbo is 2C and that the strobe is behind 3C. The ramping is indeed (very) slow; I also would’ve preferred for it to be a bit faster.

I do like that it has a battery check where it blinks out the voltage, just like Anduril does it!

The simple UI (and lack of Anduril) is a good thing for me, since I’m gifting it to a non-flashaholic.

All in all it feels like decently build flashlight with a nice tight and ‘throwy’ beam, given the not too wide head diameter. (This will still fit nicely in a pocket, as where something like a C8-type flashlight will already feel a bit bulky due to the wider head.)

For the sub € 20,- I’ve paid for it, it feels like you get a decent quality flashlight for your money. (I might pick one up myself if I see it again for less than 20 bucks!)

Hello @vsynther ! Thanks for the information! (I assume you mean the Mateminco A1S?)

That is quite bad, that it drops to such a low output after only 2 minutes. With “High” I think you mean the top of the ramping mode?

I haven’t got the proper equipment to do an accurate lumen/output test, but if I have time for it, I will do a (timed) ceiling bounce test with a separate Lux-meter, to see if I can detect the same behaviour.

I snapped that beam shot right after taking out the trash last night.
So far, I’ve run my A1s for less than 2 minutes total.
When I get a chance, I’ll run some longer tests.
