Enerleakers and Duraleaks are the worst of the bunch, other than throwaway no-name cells you get free with a burger or whatever.

I had the best luck with Rayovac. Unearthed a 40pak after well over a decade that I completely forgot about, and they were perfect: no leaks, still 1.5V-1.6V each, etc.

Equally good luck with greenā€™nā€™black Rat Shack cells, not so much with the newer orangeā€™nā€™white ones.

I think Iā€™ve seen tests that show the cheaper brands like Rayovac have shorter service lives. Maybe the differences which lead to bad storage viability also lead to better performance/capacity.

I used to say something like, ā€œI only use Alkaleaks in things that I donā€™t care about.ā€
Now I donā€™t use Alkaleaks in anything. :+1:

There was some dealy atā€¦ think it was Strauss (auto parts) where you buy one of those cheepie socket sets and get a ā€œfreeā€ 20pak of ā€œBoplaā€ batteries that looked like Duraleaks.

Yeah, I even remember the brand.

2-3mos after the fact I figured Iā€™d use them in some cheepie 3AAA lightsā€¦ never got the chance. Those were all white and fuzzy like moldy cheese.
