ALL THINGS BUDGET KNIVES

I've been lucky that the fakes have just shown me how they dont really work out for me even if I like the way they look.

Congrats on snagging that Spyderco Mantra !

That looks like it will be a real beauty. Love the deep carrying wire clip that Spyderco does…Just disappears in the pocket.

And that flipper design looks like it will just fly out…Good choice…I may have to keep my eye on that one later in the year.

I keep hearing that Spyderco’s Taichung manufacturing (Techno/Mantra) is one of the best…even on par to the level of some customs in the areas of fit n finish, factory machining, out of the box sharpness, edge profile…

I’m going to Google the Mantra right now. It sounds great.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a new EDC knife for me?

I currently carry a Sanrenmu 710 in my backpack, and recently bought a Ganzo G727M, that turned out larger than I expected haha.

Looking for a new knife around the size of the Sanrenmu 710, so less than 4” closed.
Needs to have a pocket clip.
Budget of <$15, less than $10 preferred.

Thanks!

Old model Sanrenmu F1-723.
Faux CF handle with blackwash blade.
Less than 4” closed, 2.5” blade.
Should cost less than $10 from Fasttech, or $12 form AE if Fasttech don’t deliver to your place

I’ll post some eye candy of the Mantra once I get it. But here’s the page from the catalog:

The 2 doesn’t do much for me, but the Mantra looks fantastic. I haven’t bought an expensive knife in a very long time, but Spyderco is my favorite brand, and this one looks worthy of saving my pennies for. I’m a little surprised at how many flippers Spyderco has suddenly started making, not disappointed, but surprised.

Everyone seems hot on the 2 but it just looks like about 1,000 other flippers out there to me.

Taichung flipper + Integrated lock + Delica = Dead sexy

Really there are a lot of knives around the size of the srm 710 between 10 and 15$, a lot. You must find sanrenmu in shops like fasttech or gearbest and you will find a montain of knives from sanrenmu like you want.

The Mantra, like many Spyderco’s IMHO, seems more dificult to carry. The Spyder hole adds too much width, it sure looks good but if I had to choose i would go with the 2, as always is good to have options. I wonder how thick is it?? Catalog only shows blade thickness.

I saw a YouTube video that put the Mantra side by side with the Tenacious.

The Tantra is slightly smaller overall….to give a point of reference.

I really like that the model has *both *the Spydie hole and the flipper….

I saw this difference on the same knife, Ganzo G727M-Black (Ontario Rat 1 clone): from Gearbest the blade length is 9.5 cm / 3.74 inches, instead on Fasttech the blade length is 90 mm. Well, the first is 11,92$ against 16,20$ too…

What do you think about? They are the same knives or…just an error? :open_mouth:

Ganzo on GB
Ganzo on Fasttech

If I remeber well, on Aliexpress you can buy the copy of Ontario Rat 1 (not ganzo) that is 2mm longer from the original one.

The blade length of my G727 is 89 mm so it’s more close to FT’s measurements.
I also have an Ontario RAT 1 copy (?) which has a 95 mm long blade.

I have all three of the knives in isti’s post above. My measurements are consistent with isti’s and I got the G727 from Gearbest. They’re all great knives.

edit: 1000th post in the thread!

Hi guys, I’m thinking of getting one of this, a ZT0454 clone. Any thoughts or cons of getting this? Other than the fact that its a large 4” knife?

Link?

I have two of those folders. It’s a very good knife for the money (ball bearing pivot system, nested steel liners) and it flips like a charm. I reprofiled the edge because the initial sharpness was so-so. Now it cuts like there’s no tomorrow!

I’ll try to do a review tomorrow.

Thank you very much guys.
So at this point we are sure to say that Ganzo is around 9 cm, and the Ontario Rat 1 copy is around 9,5cm, right?

Uhm…which one to buy? very bad decision
Well the Gearbest’s price (around 12:money_mouth_face: is a bargain….on Aliexpress the Ontario’s copy start from 15$. What do you suggest?
Please, don’t tell me both
