Ditto … :beers:

I ordered one although I have serious reservations about it. But, what the heck, it was only $11.72 for it. Unless I’m mistaken, and my eyes aren’t that good, the batteries looked to be marked as 1200 mAh’s.

Yes, that is what I see as well. SO that is a max of 6 Ah. How do they come up with 16 Ah? Anyway, the cells can be replaced. 5 3000 mAh cells could get one close.

There’s lots of oddities about it, of which the solar panel is just one. From some quick math, rated power might be as much as 5W.

Overall, the light looks a bit bulky for what it is, although I suppose not outrageously so. I doubt it makes anything close to the claimed 8000 lumens, as being made from plastic, it would no doubt melt. It definitely would melt if it actually consumed the claimed 300W, in addition to draining the shown batteries in just over 4 minutes.

And yet, it’s incredible that they can offer what appears to be an array of 320 LED’s, dimming down to 1% (at least they claim), 3 color temperatures, power bank functionality, plus any solar panel at all, however tiny, for $11.

I’m going to pass, but I’m honestly curious to hear what those who buy them think.

I agree, just the cost of setup, labor, materials and transportation has to be more than ~$12. I have an idea that they have a bunch of these sitting in a warehouse that they can’t sell, so they are dumping them below cost to try to cut their losses.

Or they have microphones and cell transmitters in them so they are subsidized by the Chinese government for gathering data on everyone that gets one. :smiling_imp:

Just saw, code doesn’t work, can anyone else confirm?

There’s no special Slickdeals price on the knife. It show’s as $27.13 for me on Amazon for 1 of the model’s.

Not Amazon.
Berelli is offering already-discounted Remington knives BOGO free of equal or lesser value w/ free shipping. BOGO free pricing appears in cart at checkout, no code needed.
I have a couple of the Remington RXB liner lock knives with replaceable blades. The blade R&R scheme is easy and secure with respectful use. Liner lock is sound, pivot feels OK. The edged blades are surprisingly sharp. Can’t vouch for the durability of the saw blade. These are fine for utility bangaround toolbox / glove compartment knives and gifts.
I tried ordering 2 knives & one blade set. The blade set was free w/ the knives at posted prices. Better to order two knives on one order to get one free knife, then a second, separate order of two blade sets, one free if you want spare RXB blades.

Looks like the sale is over.

That $27+ was it. I read a review where they said this is a more expensive version/copy of something else… if someone likes this design enough to search for it.

Looks like the Mircrotech 210T

I received mine last night, and after my admittedly quick look at it, it’s debatable if it’s worth the $11.72 I paid.

Quick impressions:

Negatives

  • Feels and looks cheap. I doubt that it would survive one drop on a hard surface
  • Poor assembly and apparently very little QA. The rubber port covers don’t all fit and even if they did, I doubt that they will keep water out
  • The 1200mAh batteries do test out to that on my Opus 3100
  • None of my button-top batteries work in it. The ones it came with are significantly longer than mine. This can be fixed with some minor alternations to the light but that shouldn’t be needed
  • Unknown make of batteries, and 1200mAhs, really??
  • No way to turn it off without clicking through all options
  • Low modes aren’t very low

Pros

  • Fairly bright, brighter than my BLF lantern on high

UI

  • Click to turn on cool white (hold to ramp up/down)
  • Click to switch to yellow (hold to ramp up/down)
  • Click to turn on both cool white & yellow (hold to ramp up/down)
  • Click to turn on flashing red & blue leds
  • Click to turn off
  • No memory, always starts on high in cool white

Other

  • I didn’t try the built-in charging; actually I’m afraid too :fearful:
  • I didn’t try any of the output options
  • Didn’t bother testing for LVP
  • Didn’t bother testing the solar panel

Conclusion

  • It’s a toss-up as to whether or not I’ll keep it. It’s cheap but I’m having a hard time thinking what it’s useful for. Maybe as an emergency light for my car? But I’d only do that with better batteries in it. I was thinking about putting it in my earthquake supplies but I only keep high(er) quality supplies because I want dependable stuff for emergencies.

I agree with everything you said. I still need to try it when it is dark… I want to measure the voltage on the solar panel just to see if I can use it with any of the decent panels that I have. There are absolutely no instructions on using the thing. Much less a voltage for the charging input.

As to what o use it for… Good question. It has a tripod socket… maybe a light for taking videos with a hot shoe converter… Yeah really reaching here. :smiling_imp:

I wonder if those are protected cells? I found some cheap cells on Amazon (I know never buy LiIon cells on Amazon, but this could be an exception) People have measured them at ~3000 mAh. Button top. But now you tell me they may not even work.

1 Thank

I don’t think that the batteries are protected since they’re the same length as my non-protected batteries (I’m too lazy to go and get my calibers ). Even if protected batteries fit in the case there’s still the issue of the button not being tall enough to make contact with the positive terminal bar.

I tried a few protected batteries that I have and they’re too long, and as I mentioned none of my button tops work, including the ones from Sofirn.

Maybe I’ll solder on some coiled heavy gauge wire to some laptop pulls that I have to get better batteries into the light.

Edited to mention that I ran the light on high, mixed mode, for an hour, and battery voltage dropped from 4.14v to 3.85v. So I’m guessing that the light will run for a couple of hours on high with the original batteries. The light never got hot so I’d be surprised if it drew many amps.

I measured 5.8v on the panel I got.

5.8 Volts?? was that in full sun? Well that is way too low for any other panels that I have. Even with the 24-12 volt step down converters, Obviously, but I was hoping.

Of course I will also check mine. But I have had clouds since I got the darn thing.

EDIT: I just measured 6.65 volts. About noon full sun , a bit of haze. Still not real helpful.

Oh, and I didn’t realize that it was the button that was longer than normal. I thought you meant the total length of the cell.

Oh well, as you mentioned … cheap but useless. :rage:

If it has a usb output, yeah, it’ll likely be a ~6V panel, so they can cheap out with the voltage converter/regulator.
