Hi Jason! I will answer you with djozz’s words and I’ll explain why later!
Back in the day when I didn’t have more ‘powerful’ lights (apart from a Convoy S2+), I had an issue with a “”genet”:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genet\_(animal)” near my home.
The only flashlights I had back then were the infamous “G700-like” zoomies (3xAAA, CW, XML T6 lights) I had given to my parents.
The S2+ was not enough to locate the animal in the bushes (at night) and the floodier beam from the “G700” was not good to find it as well. So, I had to zoom it in, “pencil beam” style, to point it to the bushes and trees and to locate it!!
Also, my aunts live on the other side of the river, 70m away from my home, straight line. So many times I use an Odepro Kl52 (with Astrolux A5/A6 driver + XPL-HI) zoomed in to check if everything is ok with their house when they are not there. A regular light, even a powerful one wouldn’t get me into distant detail, but the zoomie one allows me that.
These are just episodes that can be surpassed with trowers or “powerful’ floody lights, but the Zoomies still have their utility, IMO!
I get what you say about the efficiency when zooming and the heat produced, but as I say, it is not all that matters, at least to me, and at least with that kind of lights! Flashlights are about numbers, but also about real use, and zoomies still have their usability :+1:
But I won’t start an argument on this
Sofirn already has a Zoomie, but if they shrink it with good quality (AA / AAA / 16340) I may get one
