Andúril 2 coming to Sofirn - The general Sofirn development thread

Honestly if I didn’t know your post history I would say you were a shill. You must know something the public doesn’t about their engineers having mentioned them in particular so many times. Nothing in Sofirn’s lineup displays the level of refinement and complexity that the upper end of those two brands achieve. In other words, they certainly might be great engineers but without some experience they will not be putting either of those companies “to shame” in the near future.

contactcr , What type of Engineering background do you have?

Let me educate you why I comment on Sofirn’s Engineering.

1. I am a Structural/Interface Design Engineer ( major degree ) currently working in field.

2. Electrical Engineering ( minor degree ) work as consultant and contracted with a few major companies in market.

I specify from Engineering viewpoint in which I am qualified to comment on.

So for you to comment with worthless insight is a joke and waste of forum space. Do your research or get qualified to make any type of comments pertaining to Engineering or Design.

BTW, Just to be clear. I DO NOT work for or associated with Sofirn.

The most advanced driver i’ve seen from them until recently is one produced in collaboration with our own forum.

Acebeam has

On the electrical front:
complex boost and buck drivers for a LONG time, rotary selectors, usb-c charging, battery packs.

Machining:
Some of the best reflectors, large diameter pieces, mostly unique host designs, they have shaved LEDs before

Claiming your credentials and and not elaborating on any of your points means nothing to me. “trust me cause I’m better than you” isn’t a good enough reason. I seriously question your EE minor if you cant see Acebeam, from that standpoint, has them put “to shame” already

Yeah.

See, Sofirn’s lights have great build quality, but compared to more established companies like Acebeam, Olight, Lumintop, they aren’t as good.

And, ooohhh, their drivers designs compared to the companies above, aren’t nearly as complex, and have much better regulation.

My bicycle is better than your bicycle
na-na-na-na naaa-naaa.

Oh yeah well my bike has reflectors and a horn.

I do not need to claim credentials. I know from my education and training from the Universities I attended and graduated in. Plus the companies I work for. Also, a lot members here on BLF know my background.

I am MORE than qualified to comment on Engineering aspects. Why? I am trained and degree on dual Engineering fields.

If you read my postings in detail you would known that. But guess what? You did not or fail to comprehend words specified.

The purpose of thread to suggest Sofirn to produce other lights. I recommended it ( read my posts )

You decide to comment on Engineering and Design with no qualifications? Now that is real funny coming from a NON ENGINEERING background person.

So go back and get educated BEFORE you give insight about Engineering.

Back to subject of thread. Sofirn make a HIGH POWERED light. I will the first in line to buy.

BTW, Acebeam and Imalent have QC/QA issues WELL DOCUMENTED here on BLF. And VERY little failures for Sofirn. So who has better Engineering? You guessed right : Sofirn.

So what DOC1500 & Mike C… I brew my coffee at 195.327452°F in my French Press. :stuck_out_tongue:
.
 .

Oh ya well I can fix my own tires.
You don’t know how. So there !!!

:person_facepalming:

I wish you luck with your request and hope your advance purchase adequately funds Sofirn’s 100K lumen light.

Just jumped in to show how childish this is all getting.

Yep, been there, done that, and have the Tee shirt to prove it. :person_facepalming:
Knowing me, I’ll probably do it again sometime too. :person_facepalming: :person_facepalming:
But …… it ain’t worth it.

Stick around and you’ll see just about every thread >10 pages eventually goes off topic or devolves. I think it’s because we are all constantly waiting on packages which take 1 month to get to us and group buys which take multiple years.

mmalive and I are actually almost on topic by comparison. I mean we used the word engineer like 100 times. It has to be relevant.

I seriously don’t know and you don’t say. Like if you want a custom color anodization or a special led for instance? Those 2 can be cost prohibitive. Sofirn is a factory with an assembly line with a certain number of workers. They would probably have to hire a dedicated person to handle special requests and assemble those lights. It could make a $20 light into a $50 light due to special labor and handling needed. Would you really want to pay that? Would Sofirn really want to jump through all those hoops? Probably not.

BTW, some options on cars are just as expensive. Like on a new Chevy pickup if you want leather seats you have to buy a $3000 option package. It’s much cheaper to just buy a Katskinz leather seat cover kit and have it installed locally for like $1000 total. It’s as good or better than the factory leather and you save $2000.

Back to flashlights, it really does depend on what you want custom. Small companies like Convoy basically assemble their lights by hand and keep many different led tints on hand. In that situation you can order a light that has maybe five different tint options and it doesn’t cost anything extra at all. But if you want a brand of LED that they don’t normally carry, then it’s going to cause a delay and additional expense just to order it and install it. So it all depends.

Jamona.

Uhhhhh, nevermind

I’m guessing someone only completed undergrad, otherwise they might have learned some humility.

Correct me if I am wrong DOC1500….

What he is saying is this….

Company X makes a flashlight with particular features, UI, LED, Driver, Color, knurling, takes an 18650 battery, etc., etc. A “Base Model” so to speak.

You don’t like the “Base Model” as it is…. then customize it to your liking. For more $$$ of course.

  • Don’t like the UI, shell out $$ & get exactly what you want.
  • Want a different LED, pay & get what you want.
  • Want a different color, come off some $$ & you’ll have it.
  • You want a specefic driver, extra $$ will get it for you.
  • You want a different material, write a check & it’s yours.
  • 18650 battery is not your cup of tea, pay to get that 21700 compatability you gotta have.
  • Whatevet you want… $$$$ will make it happen. :+1:

After having it made “your way”, it is no longer a “Base Model”….
You will have a fully customized light made to your exact specifications.

All it takes is money to have the “Custom” light of your wildest dreams.
