Any Led Lenser owners here (P5 or P7 ideally...)

I know these aren’t generally liked, over priced and under performing… however I’m curious on how easy they disassemble?

There’s no denying the flood to throw focus on them is pretty cool and different to an sk68. And the general appearance, shape and build from what I can tell isn’t bad either. It’s just the electronics vs the price that lets them down.

So how easy are they to mod?

A P7 running on 4 AAA’s would seem to give enough power for something a little more interesting and a P5 would seem an ideal candidate to run on a 14500. But can they easily be dismantled in order to upgrade the LED and driver?

Thanks.

In my T7 (same as the P7 really) the XR-E LED (minus a star) sits atop an aluminium column. Wires are soldered to the bottom of the LED and then run down into the body. Figuring all that out took nothing more than the removal of 2 screws.

Putting another LED in there might be possible, but if it’s any smaller than the XR-E package I think some creative modding might be needed. I feel no compulsion to upgrade mine, so I haven’t looked into it any further.

I will say however that the one thing that impresses me about LL flood-to-throw lights is the zooming mechanism. Artifacts may be common, but the bottom line is that my T7 puts out more light in throw mode than any of my XM-L flood-to-throw lights (not saying it throws better, just that it doesn’t seem to lose lumens like XM-L zoomers do).

I’d never pay full price for one though. Good buy for 30 bucks however.

Seems there’s not many LL owners here then? Surprising how many seem to be able to claim first hand experience with them……

Well regardless, if I can pick up a P7 or P5 for twenty quid or so then I don’t think that’s such a bad deal. Maybe I’ll regret it though :stuck_out_tongue:

I could imagine that the lens system of Led Lenser is build around the XRE with its small, bright die and narrow beam angle. Upgrading to xpe, xpg, or even xml could result in worse performance. I'm not an expert but this could be a reason why LL to date did not change to more efficient leds.

I actually like my P5  Wish it was compatible with li-ion, regulated and have more modes. Yeah, I know, this light is P5R, but it darn too pricey
BTW, bought mine on sale for… 17 bucks if I remember well.

Curious, but how different is the P5R over the P5 in terms of actual components? I mean could you actually run a P5 on a 14500? If it uses the same LED and driver as the R just minus the charging circuit it’d work. Of course it might be different though.

Just bought a new one on eBay for just over £22 a few days ago not received yet though

Had P5 some years ago, never again.
Clicky lasts about as long as in those 1$ eBay lights :expressionless:

Mmm… no, AFAIK, P5R has modes.
Haven’t tried li-ion in mine, but I have read that with 14500 it will blinks and then nothing. No burned driver and still works with AA. Same info on all webs, so I haven’t tried in mine.
No problem with switch on mine.
