Any worthwhile budget/affordable MTG2 lights?

Last night I was watching a review of a very nice, but pricey Eagletac with the MTG2 LED. The review directly compared it to an XM-L2 version and I have to say, I really like the MTG2.

Sadly the Eagletac is beyond what I’d pay for a light, so are there any more budget orientated ones sporting the MTG2 yet?

I haven’t seen much. From what I gather the MTG2 is an array of small LEDs with a pretty large surface area.

As such, it isn’t gonna be much of a thrower and the latest Q binned SST-90s seem to have similar output.

Heres the eagletac of their MX25L2 using an older SST-90, vs the newer one L3 with MTG2.

I am just not sure that the MTG2 offers enough improvement to be mass marketed. Heres a good review of a Nitecore one with beamshot comparisons:

Theres also the Crelant 7G10. Not very budget though.

Heres a Solarforce for 66 bucks: http://www.customlites.com/Solarforce-K3-Cree-MTG2-Sol-K3.htm
(the 2400 lumen version is 150)

you can always send it to vinh after you have recovered some more funds to upgrade the driver to 4.5 amps as well

I purchased a Convoy M1 from Mountain Electronics modded with an MTG2 and 4.5 amp driver. Very nice and the whole thing was less than $60. As expected, the beam is quite floody, but it produces a massive wall of light…. by far my brightest light.

Runtime on max is about 10 minutes on 2xIMR 18350. And due to the risk of using 2 unprotected cells, I doubt I’d use it for more than 6 minutes or so before recharging. If you want more runtime, you’ll need a larger host running on bigger cells.

I like the light, but it’s too large for EDC pocket carry. I plan to mod a smaller light into something similar. Just waiting on my order of DrJones drivers. They finally entered the country so hopefully not too much longer.

Buy a needle and thread and mod your pocket!!!

lmao.

good one.

Check this one out. $100 or best offer.

- Working voltage: 5.4V--12V DC
- Battery Types Supported: 4 x 18650

2S2P with a LED that needs ~6.2v at 3A... there are better ways to do it.

True but it’s still one of the more affordable MT-G2’s. I just make my own but not everyone will.

One of the most affordable: Crelant 7G5MT also 7G10 is $99 with free shipping, unlike the previously mentioned ebay offer. Those are fair prices considering that the emitter alone is about $20.
I am kinda hoping that Supbeam can come up with mtg2 based K40 for about $100 - fingers crossed

They did not sure about price or if anyone is trying to arrange a gb yet, but it exists.
