Hi. I’m a regular user of Pilot Precise roller ball pens. I love the way they write but they can be messy. I’ve had the liquid ink leak on me a few times. So I’ve been looking at other pens for both comfortable writing and not leaking. Several of them can have their cartridges (with attached nib) used with popular EDC pens such as the Tactile Turn Bolt Action Pen.
I’m fairly happy with all of these in 0.7mm. The Jetstream isn’t gel but it’s nice for a ballpoint. I’m curious to know if that matters, if anyone here has longer-term experience with these pens, or if anyone has had any of these leak on them. Thanks in advance!
Untill the disposable pens flodded the market, I used a Fisher spacs pen refill in a parker body.
They tend to put a glob of ink around the point every now and then.
All the Best,
Jeff
My favorite pen by far is the BIC Atlantis. They are very smooth, quick to start writing, feel good in your hand, never had one leak, and are reasonably priced. I’m not a pen expert, but over the years I’ve used many different pens and the Atlantis beats them all. But I’m sure if you want to pay more, there are better pens out there.
I use any pen I can find that will take the Parker QuinkFlow Gel medium (0.7mm) tipped refills.
I have a thing for bolt action pens, THIS is my favorite but, there are plenty of other pen bodies that can take those refills. Before I used those it was the Zebra G-301. Still have a bunch of them around the house.
Seems we used to have pens that would write on buttered paper, upside down, in space. Now 90% of the pens I try to use are worthless if they haven’t been used on almost a daily basis, which is pretty rare for me anymore.
I’ve discovered Staedtler permanent Lumocolor. Write on damn near anything, tends to stay permanent even on difficult surfaces (there are limits), and you can get a re-fill pot for different colors. Beat the hell out of Sharpie fine point.
I’m partial to fountain pens and this is what I use daily. It retracts and clips tip up to help prevent any leaking from the nib. When the tip is pushed out, the little trap door seems to prime the nib for immediate ink flow.
I bought the Fisher Space Pen ‘Bullet’ model in brass for carrying in my pants pocket. I really like the form factor and that it transforms to a full-sized pen. It has developed a beautiful patina.
I was not impressed by the stock ink cartridge. It seemed to create a blob quite often when starting. I found a list of cartridges that can be modified to fit, and ended up with a Zebra refill. I like it much better.
I use a Tacray Tc4 titanium pen and a brass bolt action pen that both use the Parker refill’s. I have had them for years now and they both write smooth with no problems in any position.
