Looking to run an MT-G2 (6v variant) from 12-13v source (on a car) and single mode only. Found these two drivers. But there is a reasonable price difference. Any reason not to go for the cheaper one (I’m wanting 2 in total, so the saving is worth considering).
I’d go with the more conservative one (the 2nd one)? I haven’t built anything for a car, but that 15V is too close to 12-13V and there are spikes if I remember.
yeah, especially starting and stopping the engine, I’ve read that the electrical spikes can be many tens of volts briefly; I suppose newer cars filter those somehow. On older cars I just don’t turn any LEDs on during cranking the engine or shutting it down, to avoid that.
One of those huge filter caps the loud stereo installers use would absorb some of the spikes but I don’t know their cost.
Something else to bear in mind is that today’s cars are so deeply integrated in electrical design that drawing power from the wrong place can cause the computers to ‘think’ something is wrong or heavens forbid cause some expensive stuff to toast itself. Some cars are so sensitive that using an incandescent test light to check the fuses is all it takes to send your car to the shop on a tow truck
I’ve been using these 3 amp drivers without an issue so far, touch wood, driving MTG2 leds. The 5 amp versions are unpredictable whether the blow up straight away or at a later date.
You can find good buck drivers from ebay seller mtolya.
Im not sure using mtg2 in car light is good idea, it would be too floody, wouldnt it?
Also I wonder how many members from the eu are interested in extra led lights for car. I have read tons of documents and laws and all they are saying that they are not allowed.
I get some similar case lights from bic few years ago (black color). There was 5w cob led inside (great desicion for aspheritic lens :person_facepalming: ) and some buck driver on the other side (not light engine). Unfortunately, I was not able to unscrew back cap and change driver.
Seems you have just removed plastic part from the back, right?
