【APLOS GAW】APLOS New T02 1800 lumen Giveaway(closed)

Myself and another reviewer found a charging issue with the T02. The current slows down to 140mA at around 4v and takes hours to finish. Another user reported having to use an external charger because of how long it was taking. Sometimes it shows red when it’s full.

Contacted Aplos and received no response, so I’m a little disappointed, even more so when they responded promptly about me buying wholesale before I found the charging issue.

I just tested mine last night. I saw your comment about it elsewhere (either FB or reddit or something) and decided to look into it for myself. It wasn’t a scientific test, I was just eyeballing it. It was roughly at about 75% (orange on the button) and I plugged it in while I was working on my laptop.

Roughly 1.5-2 hours letter it was full (green on the button). Pulled it out and tested it on the DMM, it showed the charge had cut off at 4.15v.

Possible they may have sorted it out in later batches? I’ll try again later in more detail when I get the chance. Still a bummer they didn’t respond though.

Oh yeah, I should note I was using a Samsung 25R, not the stock included battery. Not sure if that makes a difference. I have no idea what their re-wrapped cell is.

I’ll try mine out later and see what happens.

Battery indicator was orange (like @darosk ).

Initially, on a USB power meter, I got 1.75 Amps drawn. Checking, an hour later, it’s down to 0.9 Amp and still charging, 1:40h 0.4 Amp; 2:00h 0.2; finished charging at 2:02h at 0.10A (green light on.) So it does appear the current tapers off.

Charging time is not a biggie to me, and I haven’t actually checked the current on other USB chargeable flashlights to compare what they do.

I do like that the T02 will hold the high setting for a long period of time. Even turbo isn’t a “flash in the pan” setting- like some other brands. I’m actually thinking about buying a second T02 to play around with, they’ve got a 20mm star MCPCB and appear to have a decent driver.

Hmmm, mine must be faulty then. I just tested it again and it took 3 hrs from 3.8v to green, but if I leave it plugged in for a few minutes it switches back to red and continues charging for 5 min then back to green, it does this over and over.

I’m going to try reach out and see if they’ll send me another unit. If not, it’s not going to be the best review.

The first USB charger I tried gave a very low starting current (around 0.9A IIRC), so I tried another and it started at 1.75A. Perhaps it’s fussy with USB chargers too?

Mine also started charging at 1.75A and then dropped to 0.1A when the green light turned on. Battery was 4.15v was at the point.

I was playing around with the T02 yesterday and measured 5.3A at the tail cap on turbo (using a current clamp.) Other reviewers have commented that it’s a regulated/ buck driver. It maintained ~ 5.0A - 5.3A until the temp rose, but it was a decent time before that occurred. (I should have timed it- it seemed like a couple of minutes?) That was using the supplied protected battery.

I also discovered (from another review) the rear tail cap switch does give direct access to turbo. Two half presses will do it, or a half press and then a full press to turn it on in turbo.

I’ve got a 3V XHP50.3 HD I might swap into mine to see what it’s like. I’ll get a pic of the stock SFT40 in the dark first.

I’m hoping the larger diameter/ deeper reflector will perform better with an XHP50.3 HD than the Convoy S2+ host I had one in. (All flood, with not much throw.)

Thank you for trying out the APLOS T02!

Certainly, sir. This is a common question.
