Anyone here have to do NFPA 70E compliance training ?
I’m looking for a good 2 or 3 day class to learn about implementing arc flash hazard protection at my workplace.

Check out Shermco Industries. We had them come up to our plant a few months ago to certify all of our electricians. The course they gave was outstanding and covered all of the new NFPA 70E standards. Some of the training videos they show are a bit graphic, but really help drive home the point of having proper PPE.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

As much as I am pro safety some of the new regs make troubleshooting machine problems a nightmare. I can’t handle meter and scope Probes while wearing rubber gloves covered with leather gloves while wearing goggles over my safety glasses AND a face shield! (don’t forget that I am also wearing a heavy leather overcoat and standing on a rubber mat)
Wouldn’t be such an issue if I could convince our designers to separate the 24VDC and 400VAC into separate control cabinets. No arc flash w 24VDC.
Agreed. Implementation can be a bugger at times. Especially with the 120/240 now requiring gloves/faceshield/lvl2 arcflash clothing. Gone are the good old days of using the back of two fingers to guage the AC voltage
I’ve taken a couple of 8 hour “training” courses. The emphasis was placed more on using “scare” tactics via videos, injuries, etc… rather than teaching calculations determining hazard categories. While it’s important for us to know the dangers, we also have to work with this stuff and live work can’t always be avoided.
I would have rather learned about the different methods of properly classifying hazard categories, mobility techniques for when wearing the 40 calorie suit, and determining where exceptions(PPE hazard level reduction) can be made for live troubleshooting, etc…
Make sure you pick a course with substance that does more than merely referencing the standard. If the instructor doesn’t have the standard in hard-copy, run!
Has your workplace been classified with hazard categories?
No we have not done anything yet. I agree though i dont want a course that outlines the code but rather shows how to apply it.
