I have a patio with no overhead cover and would like to install floodlights in the patio, primarily for lighting and secondarily for decorative purposes. I found a more satisfactory one among the many LED lights on the internet, but it doesn’t state that it can be used for patio lighting, and the usage environments written about are all large places. So I don’t know if this is suitable for me, if the power is too high and too bright it will cause light pollution, which is not what I want to see.
hi
it depends on your surface area.
maybe you provide the square meters of your patio, then they’ll recommend a suitable light.
Since “decorative purposes” were mentioned I believe you’re considering installing more than one light. In that case 50W for each light is too much I think.
I would convert output of floodlight into equivalent of bulb-lamps that I use at home (for instance 12W with 1300 lm, so 1 floodlight = 4 bulbs roughly) and think of how many of those would I need.
You don’t want to create light pollution then you need to have the lights mounted up high so they are pointing mostly down. And make sure the color temperature is way under 5000k.
Hard to give advice without seeing the space, a number of wall mounted lights may be more decorative, unless you enjoy the “parking lot” aesthetic.
I’d also reccomend some “festoon lights” - the type with bulbs along a cable. The multiple light sources will cause less glare individually, and you eliminate hard shadows.
Is the patio area already wired for lighting?
If yes, is it that you would simply like to replace your current lighting fixtures, or add to what you have been using as general lighting?
Edit: Also, do you have a total budget, or budget per fixture, including installation costs; assuming there is anything you can’t DIY.
Indeed, I forgot about this, a professional would have given me professional guidance
Thanks, this is useful and easy to understand
Okay, looks like I need to learn more about light fixtures.
