I’m curious if with a Fresnel lens the head might not have to be made so thick and the lens could be thinner and larger.
On the Convoy website all of the LEDs are crossed out. Is there a meaning to it?
Oh, they are all out of stock it seems…
Holidays.
I’m reading on the Convoy UI. Other than choosing one of 12 groups and the last level memory on or off, are there any shortcuts (to max or min or strobe)?
No. Maybe the ramping driver has some shortcuts.
Can Z1 be easily disassembled to e.g. lubricate the threads if the zooming head?
This is a really good idea. The current light has a very thick rim that wastes a lot of frontal area that could otherwise be used for throw. An additional advantage of Fresnel lens (aside from cost/size/weight) is that it can be protected behind a normal flat glass lens.
I’m think about trying one of those survival kit lenses, but unfortunately they seem to all have way too long focal length.
Not seeing the point of LEPs. Pencil beam does not have a use case other then wowing your friends.
Good point, but in the Z1 zoom case the OP video convinced me that this light may be quite useful.
A somewhat related question: since Z1 doesn’t have an on-board charger, in order to avoid carrying a separate charger, is there a decent 21700 battery with a built-in USB-C charger?
I don’t recommend greasing the threads, it projects through the lens. I had to remove the grease after this.
Please explain.
The grease reflects the light and you can see the threads in the beam.
Because the first grooves of the reflector head are exposed to light, when the head is unscrewed (zoomed in). It makes sense.
I’ve applied grease on the zoom lens threads on mine and haven’t noticed that problem.
I have this irrational dislike of pencil beams, but not much experience with them. One example where they kind of worked better than I expected was on a tour of an underground salt mine corridors - I had a regular headlamp with substantial spill, the miners had concentrated beams and they won.
The most concentrated beam I have is Sofirn IF19 - it’s not that concentrated - works fine fairly close and far but it’s neither here not there, so to speak.
This Z1 with SFT25R zoom looks different and when zoomed in, it reaches far. With no spill, I imagine I could illuminate the spot I want without bothering anybody outside of it. I wonder if anybody could comment on usability of such a tight spot, showing off aside?
An LEP is incredibly useful on water.
As a search light?
Yes, I take my boat out to remote campsites and ut is amazing to be able to tell if a site is occipied from 1km away, and the low lumens cuts through mist
