Are there 21580 or 23600 Li-Ion cells?

I have a small dive light that’s powered by 3 NiMH AAA’s. I used eneloop black to power it, but they don’t last overly long, and now they went Hi-Z so I can’t use them anymore (for this light).

The 3 AAA’s are in a little cyclindrical holder with minus at the bottom and a spring loaded plus button at the top. The holder is 58 to 60mm long and slides into a tube with an inner diameter of 23.8mm.

Instead of buying new eneloops I wonder if I shouldn’t better use a single Li-Ion cell of suitable dimensions.

Ideally, it should have 23mm diameter and a length of 60mm, including the top button (and a protection circuit, if available).

But I would gladly take the cell with the highest capacity even if it is slightly thinner and shorter.

I looked up lygte-info.dk’s Index of tested LiIon batteries and found protected 18500’s with 2000mAh nominal, tested in 2014 and 2019, from EnerPower and Keeppower.

Even 2019 is quite a while ago. And I know the guy behind this website stopped testing new cells already a couple years ago.

Do you know any newer cells that fit my requirement better? Which one would you recommend?

Hi @wus , this question has been asked before overhere.

The sad truth is that 18500 batteries have not evolved as much as other sizes, because demand is low. Best you can expect is 2,300 mAh,
I don’t know where your house lives (shipping etc) but here is a link to NKON. Quality is good, seller is reputable, but overseas shipping is expensive (even for NKON).

Today I learned that 22500 batteries exist.
But with that price tag and capacity they have no advantage over 18500.
I managed to buy Vapcell N26 18500 from a local store so those aren’t too rare.
